Ada Marie Compton Hurtado
Ada Hurtado, 91, of Fort Washakie passed away May 10, 2011. Visitation will be held at Hudsons Funeral Home in Lander from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11, followed by an evening prayer service.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 12 at Hudsons Funeral Home with Episcopalian clergy officiating.Cremation will follow.
Ada was born at Fort Washakie April 23, 1920, the daughter of James E. Compton and Dolly Lahoe Compton.She married Tito Hurtado in 1939; they had four children and made their home in Fort Washakie.Ada attended a government boarding school at Fort Washakie, graduated from high school in Lander, and achieved her C.N.A.She worked as a nurses aide for several years in Thermopolis, WY.
Her family said Mrs. Hurtado enjoyed planting flowers, gardening, bead working, embroidering, sewing and reading.She was well known for baking different types of breads, pies, and donuts.Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren enjoyed eating fresh vegetables from her garden.
She is survived by her children, Howard and Linda Hurtado of Ethete, Kenneth Hurtado of Colorado, and Juanita Hurtado of Fort Washakie; grandchildren Annie and Eddie Martinez, Quentin and Banica Hurtado, Delberta Hurtado, Daryl and Carol McLeod, Rose Friday, Ramona and Don Morgan, Beverly Hurtado; great-grandchildren Travis and Kendra Hurtado, Jessica Hickman, Frankie & Alex Martinez, Breck, Darwin, Conner, & Alissa Hurtado, Sam, Caleb, & Darren Hurtado, Shane and Tashina Spoonhunter, Alan and Ivy Spoonhunter, Julie Spoonhunter, Dwight Timbana, Cheston Roulain, LaNessa & Tori Morgan, Darcia Pingree; and great-great grandchildren Victoria, Eric, Tucker, and Travison Hurtado Jr., MaKenzie & Madison McLeod, Serene, Jaylee, Senika, Alayah, Ashlee, Hayden Spoonhunter, Tyren Ridgley, Brooklyn YellowPlume; and brothers Harold, Leonard, and Douglas Compton.
Ada was preceded in death by her husband Tito, son Frank Hurtado, grandson Darwin James Hurtado, step-grandson Alan Friday, brothers Alvin Compton, Armon, Lorenzo, James Compton, Jr. Ralph Compton, sisters Eleanor Deshaw, Alvena Large, Aleene Mehurin, Corrine Kitchen, Delores Roberts.
