Winston Bruce "Chiefy" Spoonhunter, 32, passed away Thursday, June 28, 2012 at his residence. Traditional Indian Funeral services will be held 10:00 am, Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at the Rocky Mountain Hall in Fort Washakie with Harrison Shoyo, Jr. and Arlen Shoyo Sr. officiating. Interment will be at the Clair cemetery on Engavo Lane. An evening service and wake will be held Monday, July 2, 2012 at 7pm at the family home, 47 Engravo Lane, Fort Washakie.
Winston B. "Chiefy" Spoonhunter was born October 31, 1979 in Lander, Wyoming. He is the son of Delta (Clair) Azbill and Martin Spoonhunter.
Mr. Spoonhunter was lifelong resident of the Wind River Indian Reservation. At the time of his passing, he was a self-employed carpenter. He attended schools at Fort Washakie School, Wyoming Indian High School and Flandreau Indian School in South Dakota.
His family said Mr. Spoonhunter enjoyed fishing, traveling, hunting, and being with family and friends, but mostly being with his daughter DaeShaun.
Mr. Spooonhunter is survived by his daughter, DaeShaun Nanicia Ryan Spoonhunter, mother; Delta (Clair) Azbill, father; Martin Spoonhunter and wife Jackie, brothers; Jackson Clair Sr., Jarred Bear Comes Out, Kelly, Orrin, and Garland Spoonhunter, sisters; Claire and Misty Spoonhunter, Utahnna Bear Comes Out, Chanel, Rafina and Janice Azbill and Leta Hill Trosper, grandparents; Delphine and Anita Clair; uncles; Jason Clair, Mike Muniz and George Spoonhinter Sr. and Leo Goodluck Jr., aunts; Yvonne and Skye Big Knife, Carma and George Redman, Patricia Clair, Marge and Rueben St. Clair, Agnes Logan, Joan Spoonhunter, Charlene Hoover, Delores Cuch and numerous, nieces, nephews and cousins. Extended families; Waddas Neidos, Pingrees, Shoyos, Browns, Warren, Spoonhunters, Ramsdells, and other families from Idaho, Utah & Montana..
He was proceeded in death by his great grandmother Ida Nocota; great grandfathers;Dan B. Clair, Lee Wayne Wadda, grandparents; James and Marqurite Spoonhunter, Harrison and Anna Shoyo Sr., stepfather; Marvin Azbill, uncles; Robert Spoonhunter, Ray Logan, and Shawn Clair, aunts; Marion, Geraldine Spoonhunter, nieces; Madison Clair, Kara Guffey, Jamie Guffey and KaiLeigh St. Clair.
