Willard L Meyer of Lander died Monday January 4, 2010. He was 78.




Service is at 11:00am Monday January 11, 2010 at Hudson's Funeral Home in Lander. With a celebration of Life at 1:00pm at the VFW. Please dress casual as Willard would.




Willard L Meyer was born in Pawnee City Nebraska on December 20, 1931 the son of Emil Meyer and Alice (Schultz) Meyer. His family then moved to the North Fork of the Popo Agie River where they had a ranch. They then moved to Farson to help operate his grandfathers homestead ranch.




On August 5, 1953, he married Phyllis Mae Mann. They lived in Farson moving to Big Piney then to Rock Springs and then Lander where they resided and raised their children.




Willard worked for John Hays sheep ranch as a young man. Then went in the Navy during the Korean War. He was a diesel mechanic on a minesweeper. Returning from the War, he went to work for Ray Trucking Company with his father in law Russell Mann. He then went to work at US Steel as a welder until the mine shut down. During that time, he was also on the Zoning committee for the City of Lander. Willard then went to work for High Country Construction part time as a truck driver. After his retirement with US Steel Phyllis and Willard loved to travel to Quartzsite AZ as snowbirds. They had many friends they enjoyed seeing and spending time with while they were there. After Phyllis passed away, Willard still enjoyed heading south for the winter.




Willard enjoyed fishing, hunting, 4 wheeling, motorcycles (especially his Harley), traveling and the cabin on the mountain. He also enjoyed a hunting trip to South Africa with his son and daughter in law. In which he brought back many trophies. He enjoyed camping and every year he would take his family to a new location for vacation, in which they were able to travel the whole United States and Canada. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He was an avid member of the ATV club and a lifetime member of the Legion.




Survivors include his daughter RaDall Borton and husband Buddy Borton of Lander, son Mel Meyer and wife Demi Meyer of Rock Springs. Four granddaughters Anji and Tris Borton of Ft. Collins, Co, Chelsey and Alyssa Meyer of Rock Springs. One great-grandson Adyn Meyer of Rock Springs. Two brothers Art Meyer and wife Virginia Meyer of Salt Lake City, Utah, Vern Meyer of Salt Lake City Utah. One sister Loretta Day of Medicine Bow. Two sister in laws Mary (Mann) Case of Green River and Elsie Mann of Pinedale. Many nieces, nephews, and family.




His wife Phyllis Mae Meyer, father Emil Meyer, and mother Alice (Schultz) Meyer, two brothers Raymond Meyer and Emil Meyer, Father in law Russell Mann and mother in law Melba Mann, two brothers in laws Larry Mann and Sid Case preceded him in death.




A memorial fund has been set up at Atlantic City Federal Credit Union, which will be used to set up a memorial for Willard on one of the ATV trails. Instead of flowers, you may choose to donate to the memorial. Memorials may be made at Atlantic City Federal Credit Union in care of Willard Meyer 1005 11 th Street Lander, Wy 82520.
