Walter Oliver Rivord (93) passed away peacefully in Casper, Wyoming on April 20, 2025. Born in Marquette, Michigan on August 27, 1931 and raised on the Sunnyside Road in South Range, Wisconsin by Albert Rivord (Sr.) and Catherine (Shipper) Rivord. Walter resided on the Sunnyside Road and in South Range, Wisconsin, for 46 years and resided in Lander, Wyoming for the past 48 years. He married Patsy A. Staberg on April 16, 1955. They celebrated 69 years of marriage before her passing in September 2024.
Walter served his country in the Army in the Korean War from 1952-1954. He was recognized for his critical efforts and bravery in delivering ammunition to the front lines. He retired from USS Corporation after over thirty years with the company in both Duluth, MN and Lander, WY. Walter enjoyed Lander and all of the outdoor activities it provided so he decided to reside there with his family after retirement. Walter was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, hunting, and camping. He was also an excellent mechanic.
Walter was preceded in death by his wife Patsy, brother Albert Rivord Jr., son-in-law Randy Bergstrom, and grandson Scott Edward Bergstrom. He is survived by his son Allen (Jean) Rivord of Lake Nebagamon, WI, daughter LuAnn Bergstrom of Lake Nebagamon, WI, daughter Nan (Jeff) Edlund of Lander, WY, son Mark (Clayleen) Rivord of Laramie, WY, eight grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Celebration of life will be held at a later date.
