VestaDe (Miner) Tanner, 87, of Lander, died on December 13, 2016 at the Westward Heights Care Center, after a brief illness. As per her request, cremation has taken place and there will be no services.
VestaDe was born on August 21, 1929, to Harvey and Dee (Hacker) Miner in Scottsbluff, NE. She grew up in Scottsbluff with her family, graduated from High School and then Junior College. She worked for a farm supply company and an insurance company before the family moved to Lander in 1949, where her father bought the Orchard Building and ran the Lander Variety Store, later called Miner's Delight. Vesta De helped in the store, and then later worked for the County Welfare Office. In 1951 she met and married her one love, George C. Tanner. Together they had two children,
Bill and Vicki.
VestaDe worked many years for Tweed's Wholesale and then Job Service of Wyoming, where she worked up the ranks, finally retiring as Manager in 1987. She was a member of the Lander United Methodist Church and spent many years volunteering in the Methodist Thrift Shop.
In 1988 she moved to Indio, CA, along with her mother to be near her daughter. In 1994 she, her mother and beloved sister Jo Ann (Lewis) moved to Casper, WY. When their mother passed away, the two sisters moved back to Lander and eventually made their home at Mountain Vista Retirement Center.
She was a Charter Member of Beta Sigma Phi of Lander. She also enjoyed golf, going for rides in the mountains looking for wildlife, playing at the casinos and caring for her pets.
She is survived by her daughter, Vicki (Dave) Lucas of Hudson; her sister, Jo Ann Lewis of Lander; nephews David (Storm) Lewis of Laramie, Michael (Tonya) Lewis and their children Samantha and Caden of Othello, WA; as well as, several other family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and son, Bill.
