As a child, Valerie had 4 sisters and 3 brothers. She loved to ride horses and explore the hills. She was a Mill Creek Whitehawk and played basketball. She attended the St. Mary's Episcopalian Girls High School and graduated from Lander Valley High School. In her young adult years she loved going to powwows and singing. Her and her sidekick, Rachel Goggles attended many powwows up north. She faced many trials and errors, married and raised a family in the midst of these changing times. She loved traveling and watching the grandchildren play sports, she loved going to the mountains and camping.

She worked as an administrative assistant to the Superintendents at Arapahoe School District #38 and Wyoming Indian Schools, #14. She also worked for the Northern Arapaho Tribe and the Northern Arapaho Tribal Housing.
