Thomas White Sr.




Born in Ethete WY to Mamie White & Arthur "Jack" Spoonhunter. He was raised by Anderson & Magpie White. Thomas lived on the WRR most of his life, he spent some time living in OK & ID. He went to school at St. Michael's Mission; he received an honorary degree from the Wind River Tribal College. He served on the Executive board of the Tribal Council of Elders. He was a seasonal worker. Thomas was one of the Four Old Men of the Northern Arapahoe Tribe.

Thomas was married to Martha Yellowbear-White until her untimely death. Later on, he married Verna Hamilton from El Reno, OK. Thomas enjoyed fishing, hunting, going to pow-wows, rodeos, camping, and loved to Gourd Dance.

Thomas was pleased and grateful to move into his new home on Thunder Lane. Where he resided with his grandson's Chester and Calvin, they attended and cared for him until his passing on.


He survived by son Roland Yellowbear, a god-daughter Karen Smith, his sister Maxine Little, grand-children; Sonny Bad Hawk, Ronnie White, John Yellowbear, Keith Smith, Andrea Oldman, Chester White, Thomas White III, Josie & Beth Oldman, and Calvin White. He also had numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren also the ceremonial men & women of the Arapahoe Rabbit Lodge and Sundance.

He is proceeded in death by his parents Arthur "Jack" Spoonhunter & Mamie White, grandparents Anderson & Magpie White, his wife Martha Yellowbear- White, his children Mary Jean Bad Hawk, Joan & Jane, Patricia, Carlo, Thomas Jr., Kenneth White. His grandchildren Sharon, Sherri, Kenneth, Sheryl, & Samuel Bad Hawk, Michelle Moss, and Daniel Oldman III.

Visitation will be on Friday, January, 23, 2009 in the Blue Sky Hall beginning at 5:00p. Prayer services will be begin at 7:00p. The wake will continue at the family home 1 Thunder Lane. Funeral Services will be conducted at 10am Saturday, January 24, 2009 in Blue Sky Hall, Ethete by traditional and Episcopal clergy. Traditional services will be led by Joe Waterman and Leonard Moss. Episcopal services will be led by Reverend Tom Means. Interment will follow in St Michaels Cemetery.
