Theron C. Huff's life journey ended on September 7, 2012 at the age of 91. He left a legacy of courage and conviction.
Theron was born on July 12, 1921 to Elmer and Annie Westring Huff of pioneer stock that settled in Lake Shore, Utah. As a boy growing up near Utah Lake he loved to fish and hunt for Canadian Geese, he always had a fondness for his home town.
In 1941 Theron and his childhood friend Ralph Simmons joined the US Air Corps. Theron was stationed at Marana Air Force base near Tucson, Arizona for five years as an airplane mechanic.
Theron married his sweetheart Blanche Davis December 19, 1942 in Tempe, Arizona. They had four children, Ronald, Philip, Linda and Corey. After completing his military service he returned with his family to his childhood home.
In 1962 Theron and his family moved to Lander, WY where he was employed at the Atlantic City Iron Ore Mine (US Steel) for twenty-one years.After retiring from US Steel Theron returned to his roots as a Farmer's Son, he raised a wonderful garden every summer; he loved to share his vegetables with friends and neighbors. His garden was immaculate; the weeds didn't have a chance to survive.
Theron was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was diligent and conscience with all his church callings, he held several positions; he was honored to serve as the Elders Quorum president and continued with home teaching until his failing health precluded it. Theron could avow with the Apostle Paul, "I ran the race that was set before me, I have kept the faith"
After the death of his wife Blanche in March 1988 Theron subsequently married Erva Cox Carpenter in November of that same year.In 1990 Theron and Erva served a mission to the San Bernardino California mission and were assigned to Bishop, California.After their mission Theron and Erva worked from 1992-1995 as campground hosts for L&L Inc. at the Slide Lake Campground in the Bridger Teton National Forest.
Theron was proud of his Children, Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren and loved all children, whether they were his prodigy or not. He was preceded in death by his wife Blanche, his parents, two brothers and five sisters, and a stepson Kevin Carpenter. He is survived by his wife Erva and sons Ron and fiancée Shanna, Philip and wife Kathy, Corey and wife Rowlanda, and a daughter Linda Downs. Stepchildren Kathy and Tom Johnson, Steve and Gerie Carpenter and Craig Carpenter, and twenty one grandchildren and forty four great grandchildren.
Theron will be remembered as a man who loved the simplicity of life; he dearly loved his family and cherished his time with them.
Theron's family wishes to thank the many friends and ward members for their love and support and express gratitude to the Amedisys Hospice services for their professional loving care at this time of need.
A Visitation has been set for 12:30 pm, Thursday, September 13, 2012 in the Relief Society Room of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, corner of Cascade & South 6th ST, Lander. A Funeral Service will follow at 1:30 pm in the same location.
