Steve Lanham

Stephen Lindsay Lanham, age 59, died April 28, 2010, in St. George, Utah after a two and half year battle with cancer. Steve was born on November 18, 1950 to Joseph K. Lanham and Kay Kranz Lanham in Lander, Wyoming. As a child and young man, Steve was very active in sports in Lander; playing baseball, basketball, and hunting and fishing. Steve was one of the team members on the 1968 AAA State Championship Basketball team of the Lander Tigers. Steve married young and had three children; Andrea Bingham, Judd Lanham and Nick Lanham Fulton from this relationship. He married the love of his life; Cathy Parker in Las Vegas in 1995 and added one more child to his family; Lance Strom. Steve graduated from Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, Idaho in 1975, obtaining a bachelors degree in physical education and teaching. Steve used that education while working at St. Stephens Indian School and Wyoming State Training School, coaching in various capacities and most recently, working as a tour guide at Zion National Park, and imparting his wealth of knowledge on any tourist lucky enough to get on his bus during the park season. Steve retired from bus driving in 2007 because of advanced prostate cancer. Steve loved life and had many great passions, movies, long drives, motorcycle trips and travels. Steve is survived by his wife, Cathy Parker Lanham of St. George, Utah; his parents; Joe and Kay Lanham of Riverton, Wyoming and St. George, Utah; his little sister; Dr. Lesley Travers (John) of Casper, Wyoming; his children; Andrea Bingham (D-Saen) of Plattsburg, Missouri; Judson Lanham (Shannon) of Cheyenne, Wyoming; Nicholas Lanham Fulton of Laramie, Wyoming and Lance Strom of Lander, Wyoming. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and two nephews. While Steve's life was cut short because of cancer; his family would like to remind all men to have regular prostate check-ups and follow up visits.

A memorial service will be held in Lander, Wyoming on Thursday, May 6 at Hudson's Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m.

Steve loved his students from St. Stephens and in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations for a memorial scholarship for a student athlete from St. Stephens be made in Steve's name to: St. Stephens Indian School, PO Box 345, St. Stephens, WY 82534.
