Shirley Alene Posey, 79, of Fort Washakie, WY passed away on June 20, 2017 at the SageWest Health Care Hospital in Riverton, WY. A Visitation will start at 5:00pm on Thursday, June 22nd at Rocky Mountain Hall in Fort Washakie, with an All-Night-Wake to continue at the Hall. Traditional Services will begin at 10am on Friday, June 23rd at Rocky Mountain Hall; burial to follow at Chief Washakie Cemetery.
Shirley A. Posey was born on November 19, 1937 to Abram Tassitsie and Irene Bonatsie in Fort Washakie, Wyoming. She graduated from Dubois High School and was a member of the Eastern Shoshone Tribe. Shirley participated in the Gift of the Waters Pageant, One Shot Antelope Hunt, Shoshone Reunion, and danced as a traditional dancer. She was an accomplished beadworker and completed many orders for individuals. She also made her own beaded outfits. She enjoyed going to the casino and playing bingo. She worked at Rocky Mountain Hall as a janitor for many years. She had belief in the Native American ways.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Dansyl Posey, Sr., grandparents; Hugo and Duty Tyler Bonatsie and Louis Tassitsie, brother; Eugene Leroy Tassitsie, sisters; Aletha Jean, Ardela Kay, Thelma Jarvis, Valorena Tassitsie, Sharon Hereford, and Cynthia Moon.
Survivors include her daughter, Lola A. Nipwater of Fort Washakie, Wyoming and grandson Robert Brown. Her brother Randall Adolph Tassitsie of Reno, NV, sisters Rosemary Perry, Beverly Large, Philberta Tassitsie all of Fort Washakie, Wyoming, nieces, nephews, cousins, a sister in law- Earnestine Littletree, a brother-in-law Ivan Posey and family. Also including the families of Charlene Meyers Charging, Day, St. Clair, Hill, McLeod, Hereford, Nipwater, Nagitsy, Green, Ferris, Large, LaJeunesse, Bixby, Thompson, Big Knife, Bonatsie, Brown, Posey, Jarvis, Tyler, and Hardin.
