Shawn Sturgeon, 52, of Lander, died outside of Laramie on Tuesday, November 25, 2014.
Shawn Patrick Sturgeon was born on January 29, 1962, in Schenectady, New York, to John A. and Delight Ann (Nickerson) Sturgeon. He grew up in Groton, Connecticut, and Lander, Wyoming.
He joined the United States Army following his graduation from Lander Valley High School in 1980. Upon his discharge from the U.S. Army, he returned to Lander where he worked in construction. He moved to Aurora, Colorado, in 1984 where he trained as a plumber.For the remainder of his life, Shawn was employed as a licensed Master Plumber, working in Colorado, Wyoming, and North Dakota.
Shawn married Susan Patricia Morrow of Lander, Wyoming, on August 29, 1987. They had three children, Simon Patrick in 1990; Samantha Patricia in 1991, and Stuart Peter in 1993.
He enjoyed watching movies, playing card games and Pente on the computer, listening to music, and watching sports. He was a member of the Sons of The American Legion.
Shawn is survived by his daughter, Samantha Sturgeon of Aurora, CO; his son, Stuart Sturgeon of Aurora, CO; his granddaughter, Izabella Sturgeon, of Aurora, CO; his father, John Sturgeon of Lander; his mother, Delight Sturgeon of Lander; his sister, Shareen Johnson (Charles Keith) of Lander; his sister, Kathleen (Douglas) Ebert of Lander; his sister, Kristeen Sturgeon of Lander; his nephew, Sherman "Tim" Johnson of Lander; his niece, Danielle "Toni" (Robert) Laird of Lander; his niece, Renee Johnson (Justin Roberts); five great-nieces, and one great-nephew.
He is also survived by members of the Morrow family including Susan Morrow Sturgeon of Aurora, CO; Don & Marian Morrow of Lander; Terry and Mike Federer of Lander; Sherry Stagemeyer of Arizona; Donna & Joe Johnson of Idaho; and Mike Morrow of Alaska; as well as their children and grandchildren.
In addition, Shawn is survived by members of the Newman family including Rodney Newman of Florida; Sheri Meyers of Riverton; Bud & Rachelle Newman of Lander; Randy Newman of Lander; and Paul Newman of Colorado; as well as their children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Simon, who died in November of 2000 due to complications of Marfan Syndrome; his stepmother, Patricia (Newman) Sturgeon; his maternal grandparents, Roy & Beulah Nickerson; his fraternal grandparents, John "Roy" & Doris Sturgeon; and his mother-in-law, Lee Morrow.
Cremation has taken place and no funeral services will be held at his request. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Pronghorn Lodge in the Monarch Conference Center on Saturday, December 6, 2014, from 1 to 3 p.m. Memorials may be made to The Marfan Foundation, 22 Manhasset Avenue, Port Washington, New York 11050; or the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, 120 Wall Street – 29th Floor, New York, New York 10005.
