Ross DuVal Ramsey, 87, passed away on October 30, 2024, in Basin, WY. Ross was the son of Helen Marie (Gillespie) Story and Walter Ross Ramsey. Ross was raised by his mother and his stepfather, Charles Story. Ross DuVal Ramsey was born on February 17, 1937, in Salt Lake City, UT. Visitation has been set for 10:00am, Wednesday, November 6, 2024 in the Chapel of Mount Hope, Hudson's Funeral Home, 680 Mount Hope Drive, Lander, Wyoming 82520. The Funeral Service will then follow at 11:00am also in the Funeral Home. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery where he will be buried next to his wife, Julia.
After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy and was stationed in California where he met and married the love of his life, Julia (Judy) Mae Bucholz. Ross retired in 1974 as an Aviation Electrician's Mate First Class after 22 years of service. They then moved to Lander, Wyoming, where he worked as an electrician at the Wyoming State Training School.
Ross and Judy are survived by 3 children, Walter Ross Ramsey, Valorie Lynn (Ramsey) Ratliff (John Ratliff), and Patricia Lynn (Ramsey) Granlund (Eric Granlund). Grandchildren include Stephanie Ratliff, Jessica Hill, Taylor Hill, Trina, Amber, Jeremy, Jason, and Tony. They were blessed with multiple great-grandchildren and bonus grandchildren that include Kendell Kramer, Justice Kramer, Alexia Kramer, Dax Balzly, Amelia Ramsey, Hannah Ramsey, Autumn Ramsey, Gabriella Ramsey, Ayden Ramsey, Junior Ramsey, Faith Ramsey, Tessa Ramsey, Cordell Slinkard, Machenna Slinkard, Kawlie Slinkard, and Gauge Slinkard.
Ross was loved by so many and will always be remembered as an incredible husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Nothing lit up his world more than woodworking, he truly had a passion for making toys and gifts for the people in his life. He and Judy were active in the Church of Latter-day Saints and led numerous missions across the country. They spent their years enjoying the great outdoors and loved hunting, fishing, and four-wheeling with family.
While we are sad we lost our beloved father, many others lost a dear friend, a wise sounding board, or a mentor who led with his heart. He had a wonderful sense of humor and lived his life caring for and providing for others. Ever the optimist, he was always looking for the best in people and was usually able to find it. Being in Ross's life was a blessing in itself as he made a profound impact on everyone he met.
People were not his sole companions though; our father loved dogs and never met a dog he couldn't befriend. We know that he has finally reunited with Judy and the joy is abundant in Heaven as he celebrates a life free from pain, with his mind and memories intact, watching out for us all from above.
With the holidays upon us, we ask that in lieu of flowers, please make donations to as many "Angel Trees," "Toys for Tots" programs (Semper Fi), or local animal shelters as you can.
