Rose Whitehead got her "angel wings" on December 8, 2024. Rose Whitehead was born on April 8, 1958 to Otis Clare and Gloria Whitehead. Rose grew up with 2 sisters and 1 brother in the rural Wyoming oil fields of Meadowcreek (near Linch, Wyoming) and Tisdale Mountain (near Kaycee, Wyoming). Nature and wildlife were a major element in her early life. Her family loved fishing in the Big Horn Mountains and Sweetwater Agate hunting in the Jeffrey City area, in addition to many trips to Cody/Yellowstone National Park.
Rose attended public schools in Kaycee, Wyoming, and Midwest, Wyoming. After high school, she lived with her parents in Edgerton, Wyoming, and enrolled in Casper College, where she majored in computer science. At the time, computers were new to the world, and one computer filled a room.
In 1989, Rose and her mother moved to Lander, Wyoming to live with her sister and nephew. In Lander, she took various jobs in the community and became a jack of all trades, from child support to Realty to Finance to Substitute teaching. She taught some adult evening courses in learning about the Internet when DOS was the main computer language, before the days of common search engines like Google. She attended Central Wyoming College in the 1990s to become a nurse. This education would prepare her to develop as a medical coder for the Indian Health Service in the later years.
Rose had an exceptional memory and a generous heart. She would give you the shirt off her back and help you with anything she could. She loved helping her friends learn basic computers and surfing the Internet. Her hobbies included her religion, needlepoint, and knitting. Rose made many religious banners for various churches in Wyoming, one of which was sent to the Vatican in Rome. Rose loved knitting Norwegian wool sweaters and many mittens, socks, hats, and afghans. Rose developed her family's Genealogy records by doing many hours of research on the various genealogy internet sites. Her exceptional memory and learning skills made her lethal at the game of Trivial Pursuit. Three words that sum up her life were love of God and family, love of learning, and generosity to each other.
Rose is survived by her sister Margaret Cooper of Lander, Wyoming, her sister Louise Semino of Sheridan Wyoming, her niece Cara Semino of Irvine, California, and her nephew Chad Cooper of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
She was preceded in death by her brother James Whitehead of Casper, Wyoming, and her parents.
A funeral mass is being held for Rose at Holy Rosary Church in Lander, Wyoming with Internment at Mount Hope Cemetery.
