Rodrick Lawrence
Long time Lander resident Rod Lawrence, age 68, born November 20, 1946 died on January 8, 2015 at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper following a lengthy illness.
A Memorial Service was held 11:00 am, Wednesday, January 14, 2015 in the Lander United Methodist Church, 262 N. 3rd St., Lander, Wyoming.
Rod was born to Fred and Carroll (Adams) Lawrence in Cedar City, Utah on November 20, 1946.He was the third of four children.Rod was raised in Utah, spending and adventure-filled childhood.His father was a Boy Scout leader.Rod went through the scouting program achieving Eagle Scout status.The family transferred with US Steel to Lander where Rod completed his high schools years and soon after joined the National Guard serving his country for six years.
During the same time Rod was employed at U.S. Steel where he worked for almost twenty years.He took advantage of the electrical apprentice program offered by U.S. Steel and when the mine closed down he started his own Rod's Electric Company.
He married Margaret Annie Smail and they were blessed with three sons, Andrew, Roddy and Nicholas.Rod was inspired to run for city council Ward II.He was elected and served two terms.He then made a bid for Mayor, was not elected, ending his political career.
He belonged to several organizations including the Masonic Lodge, 32 degree Mason, Eastern Star, Shrine Club, andLander Elks Club.He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and also enjoyed the Atlantic City church, St. Andrews and the close comradery of the small congregation.He was a member of a poker club and looked forward to spending time with his friends.He enjoyed gardening and sharing the bounty of his garden with family and friends.He loved the family's Atlantic City cabin, the outdoor life-hunting, fishing, rock hounding-paving the way for his son's enjoyment of the wonderful Wyoming outdoor life.Rod was fond of all animals, especially his two companions, Shilo and Mr. Cash.
Rod is survived by his wife Margaret, sons Andrew of Driggs, Idaho, Roddy of Lander, Nicholas and wife Christina of Mancos, Colorado, two grandchildren Maxwell and Molly Belle, his mother in law, Catherine, brothers Rich of San Diego, California, Eric of Gillette, Wyoming and sister Chrystal of Laramie, Wyoming, many very close relatives and good friends.Rod had a great sense of humor and it was a joy to be in his company-always humble, always positive, always kind.
