Robert Dale "Poppy" Davis 78, passed away March 9, 2015 at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, Wyoming surrounded by loved ones. He was born May 10, 1936 to Lawrence Richard and Clea Burt (Robertson) Davis, in Spanish Fork, Utah. He was raised in the coal mining town of Castle Gate, Utah where he attended school. After high school he and his love Mary Margaret Russell were married in Elko, Nevada on March 25, 1955. At that time he worked for Utah Power and Light, later he was employed by U.S. Steel, the Ironton Plant in Provo, Utah. They moved to Spanish Fork, Utah where he and Mary Margaret began to raise their two sons. In 1962, he was transferred to the U.S. Steel Atlantic City Ore Mine out of Lander, Wyoming. In Lander they became parents to a daughter and another son. He retired from U.S. Steel when the Atlantic City Mine closed after being employed for 30 years.
He loved his wife, children and grandchildren very much. Brittany, his first grandchild, started calling him Poppy and the name stuck. Poppy taught his children and grandchildren to hunt and fish, ride a snowmobile, hammer a nail, and more importantly that you can fix just about anything with duct tape, a good weld, and some WD-40. He loved snowmobiling with his family, hunting, working in the yard, being a "handy man" and telling stories. He also enjoyed plowing snow for all his neighbors on Wood street.
He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years Mary Margaret, son Thomas "Scott" (Michelle) Davis, Tad R. (Kristin) Davis, Cheryl A. Heckart, Terry L. Davis. Also, surviving is his mother-in-law Margaret T. Russell, Brother-in-law Carl R. Russell, sister Marlene Ghirardelli, brothers Gene (Sue) R Davis, Dean H. Davis. Grandchildren Brittany (Josh) Callahan, Kera Coffee, Shane Davis, Kortni (Tyler) Cassity, Shyenne and Sydney Davis, Brooke Elder, and Sean Davis. Great grandchildren Aaron, Jonah, Bailey, and Caleb Callahan, Taylor Cassity, and Kailee Coffee. Also, his special "grand family" David, Sydra, Kennedy, Sadie, Atalie, and Jamison Thatch, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding him in death his father, mother, brother Derrald, and infant sister Darlene, his father-in-law, and sister-in-law, and brother-in-law.
