Rebecca L. "Becky" Thorne died at her home in Lander on Wednesday, December. 31, 2008, following a lengthy illness. She was 54.
Cremation has taken place and a family service is planned for this summer at the family farm near Sparland, Ill.
Rebecca Lynn Kemper was born in Peoria, Ill., on November26, 1954, the daughter of Howard and Aletta Lewis-Kemper.
She married Sherman Guthman in 1974. They had two children – Travis and Tawnie. They later divorced.
She married Dean Thorne in 1980. They later divorced.
In 1988, Ms. Thorne moved to Greeley, Colo., where she worked as a computer technician for Weld County and later Teledyne-Water Pik.
In 1997, she met Hyle Miller via the Internet. She sold her house and moved to the Miller Ranch near Lander. In Lander, she taught pre-school for Child Development Services and later at Westside Elementary School. Ill health forced her retirement.
Her family said Ms. Thorne's hobbies included reading, photography, computers, genealogy, sewing, embroidery, and she was an award-winning quilter with some of her designs featured in national magazines. The family said she loved children and animals.
Ms. Thorne is survived by her son, Travis Guthman and his wife Wendy of Sparland, Ill.; a daughter, Tawnie Guthman of Morton, Ill.; sisters, Diane Kirk of Des Moines, Iowa, and Janet Kemper of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a brother, Mike Kemper and his wife Lisa of Washington, Ill; an aunt, Lucille O'Brien and her husband Wally of Albuquerque, N.M.; four grandchildren, Kayelynn, Aletta, Morgan, and T.J. Guthman; numerous nieces and nephews; and companion, Hyle Miller of Lander.
Memorials may be made to The Lander Pet Connection or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Arrangements were by Hudson's Funeral Home of Lander.
