Raymond Anthony Fortuna
Raymond Anthony Fortuna was born on November 28, 1934 in Rock Springs, WY and passed away on July 24, 2013 in Riverton, WY. Ray graduated from Reliance High School in 1953 and thereafter attended and was on the college basketball teams at Colorado A&M in Fort Collins, CO; Mesa State in Grand Junction, CO and Pocatello, Idaho. Ray was accepted in the Marine Corps in 1957.
Ray married the love of his life, Joann Gentilini-Fortuna on August 21, 1960. He was a Lander resident
for 51 years. Ray enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and hiking. Ray even hiked to the top of some of the peaks of the Tetons!
Ray worked at Yellowstone National Park for several years and also at U.S. Steel for 20 years. Ray's children were amazed by his knowledge of history, geography and geology. Ray also had a passion for collecting rocks and gems. He attended many Rock and Gem Shows wherein he had a booth
and would sell his finds and also the jewelry he made. Ray enjoyed the company of his four legged friends and especially his border collie named Rio.
Most importantly, Ray was a caring husband and father. His strong hug, the sparkle in his blue eyes and of course his joke telling will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Fortuna of Rock Springs, WY; his wife, Joann and his daughter, Sue Ann Short of Plano, TX.
He is survived by his daughter, Karen and her husband, Kant of Lincoln, CA; his son, Matt Fortuna and his wife, Tammi of Gillette, WY; his brother, John Fortuna of Rock Springs, WY; his sister, Maryann Nelson of Idaho Falls, ID and his four grandchildren.
