Unchanging Man
Ray A. Lopez Sr grew up in Taylor Springs, New Mexico where he went to school until the eighth grade. He worked as a cowboy and ranch hand along side his siblings (Montoya Ranch).
His father, "Pete" worked and retired from the Southern Pacific Railroad. His mother Pablita passed away in 1940 and was laid to rest in Mosquero, New Mexico.
On May 27, 1943 he enlisted in the Army and was in the 101st Airborne(Screaming Eagles), 463rd Parachute/Field Artilery Batallion. He fought in Southern France (Bastogme) Pnnes, Rhine Land, Rome. European African Middle Eastern, and received a distinguished Unit badge and the victory medal. He was Honorably Discharged on December 24, 1945. To his family and other who knew him, he was a true hero never changing but with a great ability to adapt.
He married the Love of his life (Madlene Sedillo) on October 22, 1947. Another adaptation he readily accepted.
He attended New Mexico, Highlands University in Las Vegas and later used his new found education working as a mechanic. He loved welding and worked as a welder in Riverton after moving to Wyoming in 1950, later relocating to Lander. In Lander he worked as a welder for Kier Welding, then working for US Steel until his retirement when US Steel shut its doors.
His adapting did have its limits though, when Medlene passed on August 3, 2009 he could not adapt but changed, hearing her, seeing her, loving and missing her. It is our heartfelt belief that he is with her now.
