Priscilla (Pat) Ann Herbst
On the morning of November 5, 2009 Pat passed away in her home with her loving family due to complications with her heart. She was 81 years old.
Pat was born on September 16, 1928 to Nicholas Marcus Comes and Frances Rosina Moon
Comes in Greybull, Wy. She had 2 brothers (Marvin and Richard) and a sister (Betty). She was raised in Bonneville, WY and attended all 12 years of school in Shoshoni, WY graduating in the class of 1947.
During this period in her life, Pat was struck with medical conditions that lead her to the Denver Children's Hospital. During school she participated in activities such as; plays, operettas, glee clubs,
band, and was a cheerleader. During her senior year she was selected to play her saxophone in the All District Band and was elected First Chair. It is safe to say that Pat was the "All American Girl". Also
during this time and throughout WWII, Pat would exchange letters of encouragement to American soldiers fighting in Europe. Some of these letters are still in her scrapbook. Her father Nicholas worked on the railroad and as the trains passed through Bonneville she would greet them, talking with these soldiers that she wrote.
On May 1
st
, 1949 she was married to Rudolph Joseph Herbst. They had 2 children together, Mary Frances Herbst and Russell James Herbst. Mary was born on August 19, 1957 and Jim, June 27
1965. Pat and Rudy lived on their ranch in Ten Sleep, WY from 1950 to 1954. They moved to Worland,
WY from 1954 to 1960. Mary was born in Worland. The family moved to their present home in Lander,
WY in 1960. Growing tired of ranch work, Rudy and Pat started Rudy Herbst Const, after moving to Lander. Pat loved to keep books and was Rudy's secretary/bookkeeper. Pat was also a stay at home mother.
During life, Pat always had a smile on her face and kept a chipper attitude. It wouldn't bother her to say that her greatest achievement was loving and caring for her family. She would worry herself sick trying to figure out what she could do to make her family's life better. One of her favorite things to do was sing to her children and grandchildren. She also would not take any grief from family or people
alike. She had a strong will to live and pure zest for life that made it easy to love her. All these things speak in volumes as to what her values and morals consisted of. She had a thing for making others lives
a priority in her life.
Preceded in death are her parents Nicholas (1975), Frances (1999) and brother Marvin (2006). She is survived by her husband Rudy, daughter Mary, son Jim and daughter-in-law Candi, sister Betty, brother Richard and her grandchildren Robert, Ryon, Aysha, and Symon. She will be missed immensely.
The family would like to recognize and thank Rachel Erickson, Robert's girlfriend, for all the care and support given to Pat and the family throughout the last year of Pat's life. She has been a saint
helping everyone. They are certain that without her, life would not have been very easy.
