Phyllis died July 1, 2026 in Lander, Wyoming. She was born January 22, 1937 in Lander, the daughter of Arthur and Viola (Demaree) Roe, and the middle of three children.

Phyllis attended Elementary & High School in Lander, graduating from Fremont County Vocational High School in 1955. She took several classes later in life from the CWC Lander Outreach Program.

She began her career at First National Bank in 1956. She was one of the first two women elected as an Officer of the Bank in 1972. Her position was Assistant Cashier in charge of Bookkeeping. She was later employed by Central Bank & Trust in 1979 as Assistant Cashier until 1983 when she accepted a position at Fremont County School District #1 in Lander as the Payroll Specialist and Insurance Administrator, retiring from that position in July of 1998.

She married Delbert William McOmie in 1955. To this union 5 children were born. In 1971 she married Donald “Swede” Quam. Both marriages took place in Lander, WY.

She was active in sports playing on a local Woman’s basketball team in the late 50’s. She also played softball and enjoyed ice skating, swimming and bowling. She began bowling in 1961 until 1972 and served as the Lander Woman’s Bowling Association Secretary and was elected delegate to the Wyoming State Woman’s Bowling Association. She was elected to the Lander Woman’s Bowling Hall of Fame in March of 1999. In later year’s aerobics, Nautilus, water aerobics and walking were important to her.

Hobbies included reading and playing the accordion. She enjoyed all animals, but especially her cats that were a stabilizing part of her life.

She was a member of Job’s Daughters and became a majority member of Bethel #17 in Lander. She belonged to several organizations serving as Secretary for the Business and Professional Women. She volunteered for the Hospital Auxiliary serving as Vice-President and later as Treasurer. She also was a member of the Westward Heights Memorial Board serving as Treasurer. Lastly, she served as an election judge in Fremont County for many years.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lander, being baptized November 11, 1977. She served as Treasurer of the Church, was a deaconess and served on several committees.

She is survived by her husband, Swede, of 55 years. Two daughters, Kathleen (Rod) Bang of Gillette and Pamela (Ron) Kosmicki of Gillette. Three sons, Delbert A. (Susan) McOmie of Cheyenne, Alan (Lisa) McOmie of Lander, and Craig (Rebecca) McOmie of Casper. Thirteen Grandchildren, 28 Great Grandchildren, and 5 Great Great Grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, JoAnne Sterling of Lander.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Pastor Gordon E. Roe, a granddaughter Angela Renee Zurn, and nieces Kimberly Fischer and Cynthia Moore.

Memorials may be made to either the Lander Pet Connection for homeless and needy animals or The First Baptist Church of Lander.
