Patricia "Peggy" Ellen Carr
Patricia "Peggy" Ellen Carr, age 90 of Lander, Wyoming, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at Westward Heights Nursing Home after a prolonged illness.
Peggy was born April 17, 1935 in Bridger, Montana to Mabel Iona and Charles "Peg" Veo Floyd. Peggy's family lived in almost every town where there were oil fields in Wyoming. For many years, they moved every time the oil rig moved. They eventually settled in Riverton, Wyoming when Peggy was in sixth grade. Peggy played shortstop on the high school softball team and bass drum in the marching band. She was run over by a car on West Main Street in Riverton, Wyoming while a freshman in high school. She had a very long recovery as it broke one of her legs.
She met the love of her life, Gerald "Jerry" Carr, on Labor Day in 1957. They had a chance encounter at the El Toro club in Hudson, Wyoming where Jerry said, "She was about the cutest little gal I'd ever seen." They eloped and were married in Elko, Nevada on December 7, 1957.
She had many jobs through the years. She worked as a switchboard operator, which was her all time favorite job. She also worked as a soda jerk, at the Toy Chest (her children's favorite job), Corner Drug, A&W Rootbeer Stand, Montgomery Wards, the Fremont County Courthouse, and as the meter maid for the City of Lander. She retired from the City of Lander as a water clerk. She liked most of her jobs, with the exception of a short gig counting fireworks.
She loved all holidays, she purchased gifts and cards for all occasions for all her loved ones. She loved to gamble, and spent many happy hours in the casinos with her sisters. She was extremely generous, always the first one to pick up a lunch tab. She had a tremendous sense of humor which made her very popular amongst her friends. She was always the funniest person in any room, quick to tell a witty story or joke. She had many lifelong friends in Lander, including her Sunset Edition neighbors and camping buddies, and her beloved Wild Bunch lunch group.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Jerry Carr of Lander; her children- Lori (and Brad) Carr Stockham of Naples, Florida, and Charles "Chuck" (and Ronalee) Carr of Lander, Wyoming; her 5 beloved grandchildren- Spencer (and Monica) Smith of Conifer, Colorado, Blake Smith of Sebring, Florida, Jordan (and Sara) Carr of Missoula Montana, Taurey (and Fallyn) Carr of Denver, Colorado, and Annie Stockham of New York, New York; her 3 great-grandchildren; her sister, Kay Elisson of Glenrock, Wyoming; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 infant daughters- Carrie Rae and Julie Ellen; and sister Ruthie Slane.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no funeral services. The family will host a celebration of life in the spring, details to follow.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Peggy's honor to Anam Cara or the Lander Senior Center.
