Neil W. Gose, 88, died at the Lander Regional Hospital on Thursday, May 10, 2012, with family at his bedside, after a long battle with Parkinson's and heart disease.
A memorial service is at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 15, at the Monarch Room of the Pronghorn Lodge in Lander. A luncheon follows.
Neil Winston Gose was born in Newcastle on May 16, 1923. He grew up on a ranch near Upton.
Mr. Gose studied mechanical engineering at the University of Wyoming until the beginning of World War II. During the war years, he was the son who stayed home to take care of the family ranches.
He married Dyllis Mae Wakefield from a neighboring ranch in 1944.
Later, in order to take care of his family, Mr. Gose worked as a large equipment mechanic throughout the Rocky Mountain region. He moved his family to Lander in 1960 and his daughters, Valerie Adele and Dulcinda, were graduated from Fremont County Vocational High School in Lander.
His family said Mr. Gose loved the Wind Rivers and the Black Hills, was an avid rock house and had an extensive knowledge of Wyoming wildlife, geology, and history.
Mr. Gose is survived by his wife, Dyllis; daughter and caregiver for the past eight years, Dulcinda Ann Gose-Schumacher ofLander; granddaughters, Paige Chytka of Belle Fouche, S.D., Marnie Higdon-Edmiston of Billings, Mont., and Natalie Basolo of Lander; great grandchildren, Haley Chytka and Tucker Chytka.
His daughter, Valerie Adele, preceded him in death.
