Lander

Monroe Clayton Harvey "Harv", 84 of Lander Wyoming died on November 27, 2021, at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper Wyoming following a valiant battle against cancer.

Harv was born to Stirel Harvey and Lucille (Meeker) Harvey of Tunkhannock Pennsylvania in 1937. He resided in Tunkhannock through his childhood years. He spent many hours with his grandfather Daniel Meeker learning auto mechanics and discussing good citizenship, honest living and doing a good day's work. As a child he learned to trap small animals and sold his furs to JC Penney's. He worked with his Dad in the family lumber mill for many years.

After high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force and had several tours overseas. While stationed in Douglas Wyoming he met his wife Kay (Leeper) Harvey.  After a short courtship of four and a half months they eloped to Hot Springs South Dakota and spent the next 63 years together.

While serving in the military Harv was awarded the small arms expert marksmanship ribbon, the outstanding unit awarded, and the national defense service medal.

After serving our country for twelve years, he attained his Bachelor's degree from the University of Wyoming and started his career as a mathematics teacher at Starret Jr. High in Lander Wyoming. During the summer months he worked for the United States Postal Service (USPS) and later decided to stop teaching and work for the USPS full time.

In retirement he worked part time at woodworking, cabinetry, house painting and driving the transportation bus at the Lander Senior Center. His passion was working on his cabin in Homestead Park that he designed and built.  He enjoyed maintaining the surrounding mountain roads and lands in the Park. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman. He could name trees, flowers, and birds of the area with ease.

He enjoyed travelling to Alaska, Canada and the northern Pacific coast with friends and made those trips with camper trailer in tow. He loved to tell the stories of each adventure.

Harv was preceded in death by his son Dale Harvey, his parents Stirel and Lucille Harvey, brothers Norman and Mark Harvey, a sister Jule Harvey and two nieces and one great nephew.

He is survived by his wife Kay Harvey, daughter Colleen Krause (Perry Bell) of CO, grandson Christopher Krause (Jamie) and great grandchildren Cole and Sloan of CO, grandson Chad Krause and great grandson Arlo Kenyon of CO.

Sisters Patricia Thomson (Larry) of SC, Millie Snyder (John) of OH, Inez Knutson (Steve) of MN, Alice Davenport (John) of PA, Esther Harvey of MN, and Virginia Welna of MN. Brothers Butch Harvey (Lisa) of PA, Paul Harvey of PA and Jonathan Harvey of PA and many nieces and nephews.
