Monica Jo Gambler, 11 passed away on October 4, 2014 in Fort Washakie from injuries sustained in a car accident.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 9, 2014 at Blue Sky Hall in Ethete, Wyoming. Burial will follow at Friday Cemetery, with a feast for family and friends following the services.
An evening prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at Blue Sky Hall with a wake to follow at the family home at 494 Ethete Road.
Monica was born on February 4, 2003 to Teresa G. Hughes and Michael J. Brown in Lander, Wyoming.
Monica grew up with her grandparents Florence and William Trosper on the family ranch in Ethete. She grew up learning the cowgirl way of life. She loved to barrel race, do pole bending, and goat tying in the youth rodeos throughout the reservation and surrounding areas. She also loved pushing the cows, branding and feeding with her grandparents and family.Monica had a great love for all animals and throughout her life had adopted many dogs, cats, horses, calves, a miniature goat, hamster, frogs and fish. Monica loved sports and riding her motorcycle as well as spending time outdoors and in the mountains.
Monicas school career started early when she attended the Arapahoe Emersions program and Wyoming Indian Little Chiefs Preschool. Monica attended grade school at Wyoming Indian Elementary School, Fort Washakie Elementary School as well as Theodore Jamerson Elementary School in Bismarck, North Dakota. She was currently enrolled and attending school at Wyoming Indian Middle School.
Monica loved cooking and baking with her grandma. Monica loved to play basketball. She was a member of the North Dakota Thunder Traveling basketball team in Bismarck. While attending Theodore Jamerson Elementary she also participated in cross-country and the science club. In January 2014 Monica placed 4th in the North Dakota State Science competition.
Monica was a member of the All-Nations Assembly of God Church in Bismarck, ND and followed her Arapaho Traditional way of life. Monica touched many lives in the few years she was with us and will be greatly missed by her many friends and people that had the opportunity to know her.
