Michael E. Allen passed away peacefully at his home on April 21, 2016. He was 60 years old. A memorial service will be held from 1:00pm-4:00pm on Saturday July 2, 2016 at the Museum of the American West at outdoor pavilion area in Lander, WY.
He was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming on July 8, 1955 to Margaret Anne(Babcock) Allen and Darrell E. "Pete" Allen.
He lived in Cheyenne through his youth, attending grade school, middle school and high school.
After high school Mike joined the Navy during the Vietnam War. He served as a Corpsman during his time in the Navy. He was stationed in Guam for most of his tour and he took his training in San Diego, California. He was honorably discharged.
Mike married and had his sons Jeremiah and Joshua while living in New Mexico in the late 70's and early 80's while working for the phone company. Mike then moved to Denver, Colorado in the early 80's continuing his work for the phone company and had his youngest son, Gene.
In 1985 Mike moved to Lander, Wyoming to raise his children. He started working for the State Training School and continued working there until his health diminished and forced him to retire.
Mike is survived by his mother, Margaret Mewes of Colorado Springs, Colorado; sister, Cheryle Tafoya (Dave) of Lander, Wyoming; sons, Jeremiah (Amber), Joshua Allen and Gene Kurpis; brothers, John (Michelle) and Chris (Debby) Nelson, both of Colorado; nephews, Nic Tafoya and Christopher Nelson, both of Colorado; nieces Tara Tafoya and Jordan Nelson; great nephews Gabe and Orion Tafoya and several grandchildren that he loved dearly.
Mike was an avid musician. He had a great love for the guitar and drums. He loved music, but rock'n roll and country were in his heart and soul.
Mike also had an adventurous side to him, fishing the rivers and lakes wherever he lived. Camping and campfires were always enjoyed whenever possible.
His love for his pets was endearing and kindness to all animals of all kinds made Mike so very special. He is missed and loved dearly.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Darrell "Pete" Allen, Step-father, Hugh Mewes, and several aunts, uncles, grandparents and dear friends.
There will be a celebration of his life with family and close friends this summer.
