Matthew Charles Reed, 57, of Lander, Wyoming, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 8, 2026, in Lander, Wyoming.
Matt was born on June 11, 1969, in Saginaw, Michigan, to Kenneth and Anna (Rugenstein) Reed. He spent his early childhood in Saginaw before moving with his family to Lander, Wyoming, in 1982. Lander quickly became home, and it remained the place he loved and proudly called home for the rest of his life.
On August 27, 1994, Matt married the love of his life, Jennifer Jones, in Lander, Wyoming. Together they built a life centered on faith, love, family, and adventure. Their marriage was filled with unwavering love, laughter, and countless memories. Jennifer was not only his wife, but his best friend and greatest partner in every adventure.
Matt dedicated more than 30 years of his professional life to Fremont Motors. He began his career in the detail department and, through hard work, determination, and exceptional leadership, worked his way up through the company before retiring as the General Manager of Fremont Toyota. Throughout his career, he earned numerous awards and accolades in recognition of his leadership, dedication, and commitment to excellence. He believed in leading by example, treating everyone with honesty and respect, and investing in the people around him. The friendships and relationships he built over the years became one of the greatest rewards of his career.
His desire to serve extended beyond his career. Matt faithfully served on the school board for local Christian schools, where he helped support Christian education and the students, families, and teachers in his community. His leadership reflected his faith, his integrity, and his heart for serving others.
Outside of work, Matt truly came alive in the outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, snowmobiling, playing softball, and spending every chance he could outside. Hunting was one of his greatest passions, especially when he was able to share it with Jennifer or one of his daughters by his side. Those adventures became some of his most treasured memories.
Matt also had a passion for speed and adventure. He loved anything that would go fast, and aviation held a special place in his heart. He owned an experimental airplane and thoroughly enjoyed every opportunity to take to the skies. Later in life, he cherished every chance to fly with friends and family, taking in Wyoming's breathtaking landscapes from above.
Above all else, Matt was a devoted family man. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. Together, Matt and Jennifer built a beautiful cabin in the mountains, a place that became one of their greatest joys and a gathering place for the people they loved most. Whether it was a holiday weekend, a hunting trip, a summer evening around the campfire, or simply watching the sun rise over the Wyoming mountains, the cabin was where countless memories were made and lifelong traditions were born.
Matt treasured every opportunity to be surrounded by family and friends. Whether he was sharing stories around the fire, taking someone fishing, heading into the mountains, or simply sitting on the porch enjoying God's creation, he found joy in bringing people together. He believed the best moments in life weren't measured by where you were, but by who you were with.
Matt had a gift for making people feel welcome, valued, and loved. He was known for his warm smile, generous heart, and the kind of hugs that made everything feel okay. To those who knew him best, there truly was nothing like one of Matt's hugs. Whether he was teaching someone a new skill, lending a helping hand, or simply listening, he made every person feel important. His quiet strength, adventurous spirit, unwavering faith, and selfless love for others will be remembered always.
Matt's strength was evident in every aspect of his life. He faced life with remarkable courage, determination, and unwavering faith. To those who knew him, he was one of the toughest people they had ever met. Giving up was never an option. His perseverance, work ethic, and steadfast character inspired everyone around him. He led by example, showing those he loved that true strength is found in hard work, humility, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to the people who matter most.
Matt was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; his parents, Kenneth and Anna (Rugenstein) Reed; his oldest brother, Terry Reed; his nephew, Terry "TJ" Reed; and his great-nephew, Joseph Babosh.
