Matthew Deford Beal was born January 6th in 1971 in Englewood Colorado. He was the son of Ella Jane and Deforth Beal.
At four months of age, Matthew's home caught on fire and he suffered smoke inhalation. He spent months in the hospital and eventually became a resident of an institution in Colorado.
Matthew has lived at the Wyoming life Resource Center (formerly the Wyoming State Training School) since 1977 when he was six years old. During the 46 years that he lived at the Life Resource Center, the staff and clients were his family. Hundreds of people have passed through his life and provided the care that he needed to live each day.
Matthew's long life for a person with his challenges is a testament to his strength and resiliency as well as the skilled care and love he received from the loving staff at the WLRC
Matthew was a patient teacher who tolerated our struggles to serve him better. He taught us that music was a key to happiness and engagement and that there was more to his understanding and capabilities. Because of Matthew, a music therapy program is being developed at the Life Resource Center,
He was proceeded in death by his father Danforth Beal.
Survivors include the many staff and friends who have been part of his life at the Wyoming Life Resource Center.
Services will be held at the Life Resource Center Chapel on Tuesday June 11 at 2 PM. Reception and graveside to follow.
Donations may be mailed directlry to the Chapel Fund at the Wyoming Life Resource Center, 8204 HWY 789, Lander, WY 82520. You may wish to designate that that the funds be used to bring more music to the lives of the people at the Wyoming Life Resource Center.
