Mary Ruth Levar, passed peacefully on April 25, 2025 at

Westward Heights Care Center after a decline in health from a fall which resulted in a broken hip.  She was 91 years old.

Her rosary will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 10th at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Lander.  A coffee reception will be held immediately afterwards in Boeseke Hall at the church.

Cremation has taken place and a funeral mass and interment will take place in Rawlins, WY at a later date.

Mary Ruth King was born on March 18, 1934, in Denver, Colorado, the daughter of Kinney and Ruth (Clawson) King.  She graduated from Rawlins High School in 1952 as Valedictorian.  She attended the University of Wyoming on scholarship.  She graduated with a BA in Education in 1956. Upon graduation, she was employed as an elementary school teacher in Rawlins, WY and used part of her salary to help put her younger brother through college.  In 1957, she married John Levar (they divorced in 1977). She taught several years in Rock Springs, WY before moving to Lander, WY.  She was a career teacher and retired after 40 years.

Mary Ruth was an avid bowler.  She bowled in a women's league as well as a mixed doubles league for several years.  Her women's league represented Wyoming in a tournament in Las Vegas.

She loved to read and later enjoyed audio books.

Mary Ruth became a Chicago White Sox fan when she was 10 years old and enjoyed watching them play for the next 80 years.

In 2022, she saw the Sox play in Denver with her four grandchildren.  She kept up with the baseball standings, nightly news, and the stock market.

Her family said she enjoyed spending time with her dogs over the years, planting flowers at every residence she lived at and maintaining a well manicured lawn.  She was a kid at heart and collected stuffed toys and animals that sang & danced.  Mary Ruth was a devoted mother and grandmother.

Mary Ruth had an extensive rooster collection which included some that were over 100 years old that she received from her grandmother in Iowa.  She spent many summers in Ackley, Iowa at her grandparent's dairy farm. She fondly recalled milking the cows with her grandfather & drinking the warm milk, swinging on a rope in the hay loft, and she spent hours reading her cousin's comic books.  Every summer her grandfather let her pick out a cow to care for and every year she named it Bluey.  She lived in Wyoming her entire life, but always said her heart belonged in Iowa.

She is survived by her daughters Malinda Griffin (Paul) of Riverton, WY and Andrea Bowring (Beau) of Cheyenne; grandchildren Kira Griffin, Kody Griffin, Maristie Walter and Colin Walter.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother,  Ronald King.

The family would like to thank the CNA & nursing staff at Westward Heights for her care as well as the staff from Enhabit Hospice Care.
