Mary Lou Henan of Fort Washakie, WY passed away unexpectedly at home on July 19, 2014 at the age of 80.
Funeral Services will be held at the St. David's Episcopal Church, at the Robert's Mission in Fort Washakie on Friday, July 25, 2014 at 10:00am.There will be a prior evening service on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at the Hudson Funeral Home in Lander at 7:00pm.Mary will be interred at the Sacajawea Cemetery following the Funeral services, with a feast after at the Rocky Mountain Hall.
Born May 17, 1934, Mary was a life-long resident of Fort Washakie who committed her career to education.One of thirteen children, Mary attended grade school at Fort Washakie School, and graduated high school in 1954 from Fremont County Vocational High School as the co-valedictorian.After high school, Mary attended Casper College where she studied toward a degree in Education, Arts and Science. Mary returned to Fort Washakie where she became a Teaching Assistant at Fort Washakie School and stayed working with elementary students until her retirement.Through her years of commitment and service to education, she held high expectations for students, and loved working with the community children.
Mary was also an active member of the Shoshone Episcopal Mission, and throughout her life she served on the Holy St. John Guild, she was a Sunday School Teacher, a member of the choir, an Alter Guild member, and the Secretary of the Bishop's Committee.Mary participated in Church fund-raising and was a core member of all Roberts Episcopal Mission activities.
Mary was an avid fan of the Colorado Rockies, the Denver Broncos and the Wyoming Cowboys.
Although she never married or had children, Mary was a strong member of her family, and considered a family matriarch.
Mary was preceded in death by her Mother, Gladys Henan, her Father, Jake Henan, her brothers Dean Henan and Everett Henan, and her sisters, Florence Chingman, Elaine Engavo, and Claudine Kay Henan Roberts.Mary is survived by her brothers Jacob "Joe" Henan and Ben Earl Henan, her sisters Viola "Skipper" Smith, Peggy Meyers, Ruth Klassy and Thelma Coffey, her uncle Finn Snyder, and her many nephews, nieces, cousins, great and great-great nephews and nieces.
