Marge Leslie, of Lander, surrounded by her family, peacefully passed away in Lander at her home on July 11th, 2019.A celebration of life is to be planned for a later date.
Born Margaret Marchand, on September 26, 1938, in Pawtucket Rhode Island, to Felix and Margaret.Marge graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Pawtucket, RI, in 1956.Marge and Jerry Leslie were married on November 21, 1959 at St. Josephs Church in Pawtucket.They met at a social dance while Jerry was in the US Navy, stationed in Newport R.I.After a very short courtship of 6 weeks, they were married.At the time of their marriage, Marge was a Senior Clerk Stenographer for the State of R.I. Probation and Parole Department.They have celebrated 59 years of marriage together.
Their first child Steven was born in 1961 in Pawtucket.Shortly after his birth, they moved to Dublin, California, where Jerry went to work for the National Weather Service.While in California, Marge gave birth to Kenneth, and later Tamsin.They moved to Columbia Missouri in 1968, and in 1970 they moved to Lander where she resided until her final days.
When coming to Lander, she found that there was no dance studio or teacher, so she opened the first one and taught dance for almost 20 years.She was a professional dancer from her very young years in Rhode Island.While teaching dance, she was one of the original secretaries at NOLS, and worked for Dr. Harris as a medical transcriptionist.She also worked at Rocky Mountain Federal Credit Union, Rob Clarke Realty, and Child Development Services.
She directed and performed in the Lander Little Theater group, and she was president of the LVHS music boosters.Marge was the choreography director for the Winter Fair Queen Pageant for 13 years.She was on the Senior Citizens Board, and was secretary/treasurer for the BPOE Does for over 13 years.For many years she directed the 4th of July melodramas which were held at the old community center.
Marge enjoyed golf, traveling, taking cruises with Jerry, spending time with her family, and the occasional pull of a slot machines arm. Marge never missed an episode of Days of our Lives during its54 years on TV.Marge enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great children and never missed important events in their lives.
Marge was a member of Holy Rosary Church in Lander.She was proceeded in death by her parents, a sister Louise, a brother Bill, and her son Ken.
Survivors are her husband Jerry of 59 years, her son Steve and wife Lynda (Parker, CO), and her daughter Tami Hitshew and husband Bart (Lander). Marge and Jerry have six Grandchildren, Cori (Josh) Hogstadof Fruita, Colorado, Kerianne Leslie of California, Chelsie (Adam) Swets of Des Moines, IA, Dane (Tessa) Leslie of Yukon, OK, Jordan Hitshew (Cameron Campbell) of Grand Junction, Colorado, and Isabelle Leslie of Parker, Co.They also have been blessed with 5 great grandchildren from Cori/Josh (Hans, Hudson), Dane/Tessa (Grant,Rylee), and Chelsie/Adam (Jaeger).
