Our dearly loved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Daughter, Sister, Aunt, and close devoted Friend to many, unexpectedly passed away on October 19, 2011 due to an intra-cerebral hemorrhage.
Lori Thompson Barney was born on April 17, 1959 to Marcia and Brent Thompson in Salt Lake City, Utah.She attended Brighton High School and Brigham Young University and took great pleasure in learning new skills and perfecting them her entire life.Lori married Gary A. Barney in the Bountiful, Utah Temple on June 3, 1995 and has spent the last two decades in an area that she loved in Lander, Wyoming. From her youth, Lori developed many close friendships and was known as one who always found the best in others.Lori carried with her a bright and happy countenance that brought a smile to everyone she would meet.She took great interest in both her family's and friend's lives, and tried to get to know anyone she came in contact with.As a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints, Lori served in nearly every calling in the Young Women's Organization, Relief Society, as well as in multiple humanitarian service opportunities.Lori was always willing, and wanting, to serve those around her with all of her heart and to her full, and seemingly endless, capacity.To her friends, Lori was loved for her genuine kindness, her loving heart, and her charitable nature.She was recognized as one they could call a true friend.To her family, Lori was everything.
Lori developed amazing talents and gifts throughout her life.She learned to become a pilot, a rancher, a cyclist, a marathoner, a pianist, a hunter, a skier, a chef, a poet, an entertainer, a business woman, and a philanthropist.In addition, Lori had unmatched homemaking skills.Whether entertaining family for an intimate meal, or guests for a big event, Lori executed everything with perfection and class.She used her talents to make every gathering special, and a celebration.During the holiday season, she enjoyed transforming her home into something magical.While family and friends took in the intoxicating and comforting aroma of home-made wassail, they admired her unique Christmas trees and will certainly miss such cherished events.
Lori exemplified a life well lived. She had a true testimony and understanding of the Savior, Jesus Christ, and tried daily to follow His example.By so doing, she came to be a great influence on all those who knew her, leaving an enduring legacy.She was an angel here on earth that will never be forgotten.
Survived by her husband, Gary A. Barney of Lander, WYher children David A. (Sara) Francis, Jr., Nicholas T. Francis, Samuel H. Francis, Travis (Amy) Barney, Cami (Shane) Petty, Brooke Barney (Weston T. Graham).Her parents, Brent and Marcia Thompson, sisters, Kaye (Harold) Dunn, Shari Thompson Knudson, and her brother Brent (Angee) Thompson, Jr..Also survived by her beloved grandchildren, whom she knowingly spoiled, Bela, Nathan, Ashton, Olivia, Devlin as well as her many nieces and nephews who her adored her greatly.
A memorial will be held on Saturday, October 22, at 11 a.m. at the LDS Chapel in Lander, WY (653 Cascade Street, Lander, WY).Services provided by McDougal Funeral Home in Salt Lake City and Hudson's Funeral Home in Lander, WY. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Lori Barney Scholarship Fund to benefit students at Central Wyoming College at First Interstate Bank.
