Obituary for Lois Evelyn Killion
Long-time Lander resident Lois Killion died on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 in Nampa, ID of complications from Alzheimer's . She was 89 years old.
Funeral services for Mrs. Killion will be held on Friday, December 28 at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Mount Hope, Hudson's Funeral Home in Lander. Paster Larry Ramsfield of New Life Christian Church of Worland will officiate, followed by burial at Mount Hope Cemetery.
Viewing will be held on Friday, December 28 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Lois Evelyn Killion was born on February 16, 1923 in Valentine, NE to Charles and Emma (Langston) Prugh. She attended school in the area and married Thomas James Killion on September 27, 1939. Two years later, the couple's first son Robert (Bob) was born.
Mrs. Killion worked as a rural mail carrier until 1946. That year the Killions moved to the Big Horn Basin of Wyoming, where they had two more children, Daniel and Emma Jean. While in the Big Horn Basin, Mrs. Killion worked in a beanery plant in Basin and as a waitress in Greybull and Worland. In 1954, Tom and Lois moved to Lander, where Lois continued working in food service for 8 more years. In 1962, she graduated from Lander Beauty School and started Lois' Beauty Shop in the Hallam Building on Lincoln Street. She ran the business for 24 years until retiring in 1986.
After retirement, Lois enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, crafting, doing crossword puzzles, sewing and crocheting. In 1985, she began painting and soon began winning awards for her western landscapes and portraiture. She was also an avid church goer and member of the "After 5" club of Lander.
As Tom's health declined, Lois spent more time at home caring for him. After he died in 2006, she moved to Nampa, ID to live with her son Robert.
Mrs. Killion is survived by three children, Robert (Bob) Killion of Nampa, ID, Daniel (Dan) Killion of Green River, WY, and Emma Jean Scott of Worland, WY. Other survivors include six grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, as well as one brother, Walter Prugh of Kempter, TX, and one sister, Freida Brinda of Lander, WY.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, two sisters, and one grandchild.
