Lloyd James Webb, age 77, died Friday, August 2nd, 2024, in Lander, Wyoming.
A Life Celebration Service will be held in the Fall at Wind River Community Church in
Lander, Wyoming.
Lloyd James Webb was born on October 17th, 1946, in Clayton, New Mexico to J.R.
and Lois Webb. Lloyd left Clayton at the age of 17 to work on a construction crew and
then joined the army at age 19. He was stationed for three years at Fort Bliss, Texas
during the Vietnam conflict and discharged from the army in 1968. Lloyd then fulfilled
his lifelong dream of moving to Alaska in March of 1969. Lloyd worked for the State of
Alaska as the live animal caretaker for the Institute of Arctic Biology at UAF. He then
transferred to the highway road maintenance department. Realizing he would never see
the whole state of Alaska from the highways, he decided to by an airplane in 1973 and
learned to fly in the record time of 26 days. An avid pilot and outdoorsman, Lloyd
explored the state of Alaska corner to corner.
In November of 1983 he met his future wife, Carol Ann Parker and they were married
on March 24th, 1984. Their first son, Jeremiah, was born in December of 1984,
followed by their second son, Jesse, in August of 1986. They purchased 5 acres in an
old mining community called Chisana and built a 20 x 24 cabin where they spent every
spare moment. At age 50 Lloyd was able to retire from the State of Alaska. The family
purchased another 5 acres with an unfinished log cabin in Chisana and lived there full
time in the fly in only community of now 10 people. They homeschooled the boys and
worked part time for a guide outfitter guiding Dall sheep, moose, and grizzly bear
hunts. In 2003, they moved to New Mexico to care for Lloyd's ailing father. After his
passing in 2005, they moved to Thompson Falls, MT where they resided until 2016
when they moved to Lander, WY to be closer to family.
Lloyd was a quiet and gentle man of few words who was known for his steadfast faith
in God and his love and dedication to his family. He will be greatly missed and fondly
remembered by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Carol Ann Webb; two sons, Jeremiah Webb and
his wife Marcy, Jesse Webb and his wife Megan; seven grandchildren, Isaiah, Caleb,
Parker, Lydia, Nathan, Deacon, and Weston; his Sister Frankie Reifsteck; an aunt,
numerous cousins, a niece, nephews, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, a large church
family, and many friends.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, J. R. & Lois Webb and his father-in-law
and mother-in-law, Richard & Lois Parker.
Memorials can be made in Lloyd's name to Wind River Community Church, P.O. Box
1362, Lander, WY 82520.
