On October 27, 2025, Lilette P. Heumier (known to most as “Letty”) peacefully passed away in Fort Washakie, Wyoming, at 100 years old.
Lilette was born on March 2, 1925, to Emile and Elise Klemke in Snyder, Nebraska. Shortly afterward, the family moved to Jay Em, Wyoming.
Letty spent her childhood in the Lusk area, where she attended school and graduated second in her class. She went on to attend the University of Wyoming, where she placed third in a national debate competition. On March 20, 1946, she married Robert Mershon Heumier. Soon after, they moved to the Riverton area and built a life together.
Letty was the true definition of a “rock hound.” She spent her life gathering and building a rare collection that she enjoyed showing to anyone who wanted to see it. She built the “Heumier Family Museum” in Torrington, Wyoming, and especially enjoyed when local students would come to take tours.
Letty was preceded in death by her parents, Emile and Elise Klemke; her husband, Robert Heumier; and her daughter, Carolyn Kay Heumier.
She is survived by her son, Richard Valgene Heumier.
Letty will be laid to rest at Torrington Cemetery on March 2, 2026, with a memorial service at 10:00 a.m. All who knew her are welcome to attend.
