Funeral services for Leonore McDowell of Lander will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October. 14, at Hudson's Funeral Home in Lander.
Mrs. McDowell died on Friday, October 9, 2009, at the Laramie Care Center in Laramie. She was 88.
Leonore Tietsort was born on Feb. 16, 1921 at Woodbine, Iowa, the daughter of Lee and Opal Holben Tietsort. Other than 15 years in Iowa and four years in Washington state, she lived in Wyoming throughout her life.
Mrs. McDowell worked at Wyoming State Training School in Lander from November 1965 until May 1983, when she retired.
She married Keith McDowell in June 1972. He preceded her in death in 2002. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Keith Darren Tietsort and Jack Tietsort.
Mrs. McDowell is survived by one sister, Kathleen Burress of Logan, Iowa, and from a former marriage in 1940, she is survived by three children, Norma Jean Kirkaldie of Laramie, Mike Briggs of Evanston, and Marilyn Smith of Dallas, Texas; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. From her stepdaughter, Cheryl Poston, who died in 1998, and husband Keith, she is survived by two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Her family said Mrs. McDowell enjoyed gardening, her grandchildren, and family gatherings.
