Leona Mae Hunter, of Lander, died in Riverton on Saturday, August 30, 2014. A Visitation has been arranged for on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 from 4 – 6:00 pm in the Chapel of Mount Hope, Hudson's Funeral Home, Lander. A Funeral Service has been arranged for at 1:00 pm, September 3, 2014 in the Trinity Episcopal Church, Lander.
Leona M. Hunter died August 30, 2014 in Riverton Wy at the age of 83. Leona Mae Larremore was born July 29, 1931 in Amarillo, Texas to Thomas and Doris (Hudson) Larremore. The family moved back to their home town of Lander when Leona was three years old, she lived for most of her life. She graduated from Fremont County Vocational High School in 1949 and went on to attend the University of Wyoming. In 1952 she married Ted (Tinker) Hunter Jr. Together they had three children. Leona worked as a switchboard operator, including 23 years at the Wyoming Life Resource Center prior to her retirement.
Leona is survived by her three children Bonnie Nation and her husband John of Lovell, WY, Thomas Hunter and Amy Hunter of Lander, Four grandchildren Travis Burnett of Gillette Wy, Lisa Hunter of Clayton NM, Gina Hunter of Clovis NM, and Gretchen Hunter of Lander, four great grandchildren Reese, William, Mateo and Kloey all of New Mexico, one sister Barbara Wilkinson of Lander, niece Julia Wilkinson of Lander, nephew Jason Larremore of Lander, and Brad Wilkinson of Salt Lake City, UT.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Doris Larremore, brother Bob Larremore, niece Beth Wilkinson Thompson, and nephew Bart Wilkinson.
Leona enjoyed playing Bridge, reading good books, discussing politics, and spending time with family and friends. She loved spending time in Sinks Canyon and she especially loved being a grandmother! Her grandchildren have great memories of her singing, dancing and reading them stories.
