LEOLA MAUDE DOLLARD RESCHKE
Leola was born 16 miles south of Lander, Wyoming on the Little Popo Agie on July 23, 1908.Leola passed away on November 25, 2016 in Lander, Wyoming.
Her mother was Maud (Adams) and her father was Charles Dollard.She spent time riding and caring for horses while growing up on the family ranch.
Leola graduated from Fremont County Vocational High School.She married Johannes Walsted and had three children Charles, Marie, and Edmond.The couple later divorced.Leola raised her own three children with the guidance of her parents on their ranch on Baldwin Creek.
Leola became engaged to Charles Reschke.Charlie was a handsome, strong built young man who worked at Atlantic City, Wyoming in the gold fields.He worked as an "oiler" on the machines and one day his shirt sleeve got entangled, pulling his hand and arm into the machine.Charlie lost his arm at the shoulder.Leola married him in 1939 when he recuperated.He was a good father to her children.
Charlie worked on various ranches, and for the Lander Valley Sheep Company.In summers, he lived in a sheep wagon, tending the sheep.Leola went with him as often as she could.She left her children with their grandparents, the Dollard's.Always an explorer, Leola spent many years exploring Wyoming and rock-hounding with her husband Charlie.Later together they traveled around the Southwest, and adventuring as far away from Lander to Port Charlotte, Florida.Traveling, camping, fishing, and horseback riding were just some of Leola's favorite activities.
For twenty years, she was the ticket runner at the sale barn, in Lander, a job she enjoyed very much.
In 1983, Leola learned more about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and joined the LDS church.
Leola's family was always the center of her world.Leola's daughter, Marie Walsted Farrens died before she was twenty years old, giving birth to twin daughters, Sandra and Lorena.Son, Charles was in a convalescent home in Thermopolis, and Edmond was in a Veteran's Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado.Both sons are now deceased.Leola is survived by her four grandchildren, Vicki (Wayne) Sallade, Steve Walsted, Sandra Schwoob and Lorena (Vern) Altman, and eight great-grandchildren and several great-great children.She was an extremely alert, cheerful, uncomplaining lady who lived her later years at Pushroot Village, Showboat retirement home and then Westward Heights Care Center.
Visitation will begin 9:00am, Friday, December 2, 2016, with family prayer at 9:45am in the Relief Society Room of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints corner of Cascade & South 6th in Lander. Funeral Service will follow at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be mailed directly to the local animal shelter, Humane Society, MS Society, or the American Lung Association.
