Lawrence Large

August 7, 1932 — January 23, 2010

Lawrence "AB" Large, age 77, died Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Lander Valley Medical Center in Lander, Wyoming. Service will be Friday, January 29, 2010 at Rocky Mountain Hall in Fort Washakie at 10:00 am. Wake will be on Thursday, January 28, 2010, at Hudson Funeral Home in Lander, Wyoming at 7:00 pm. Officiating will be Robert Nomee of Lodge Grass, Montana. Burial in Sacajawea Cemetery at Fort Washakie, Wyoming with Military graveside rites.


Ab was born to Lawrence and Lula (Leonard) Large on August 7, 1932 at Fort Washakie, Wyoming. He was a member of the Moo-ui-gi-wah-nt Clan of the Eastern Shoshone Tribe, an enlisted in the United States Army; in 1955 with honorable discharge in 1957. He married his wife Judy on July 15, 1972, in Lander, Wyoming. He also graduated from Flandreau Indian High School in 1950, Flandreau, South Dakota.


During his life he worked for the BIA Roads and the Irrigation Department, he helped work on a ranch in CA build the Yellow Tail Dam in Fort Smith, Montana; he also worked in California at a Vineyard/worked for Ab Cross in Dubois, Wyoming and enjoyed Horse Shoeing. Ab was a Champion Bull Rider and Saddle Bronc Rider; he also enjoyed fishing, hunting and traveling to the mountains to cut wood. He also loved to drive around in his truck, all over the road gawking around looking for someone to visit, and when he was home he love to spend time with his family, friends, and his grandkids.


Ab also played the guitar and sang while he was an Evangelist and Pastor. He also loved to travel, and attended many church revivals and tent camp meetings in Montana, Oregon, Arizona, New Mexico, Idaho, South Dakota, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Colorado and North Dakota, as he did host tent camp meetings at home also. In his younger days, he did visit Mexico and in his later life came close to crossing into Canada.


He got the chance to be a guest on the 700 Club National Christian Television show out of Virginia Beach,VA and was honored along with Richard Roberts as "Old Timers" in June 2007 Shoshone Stampede by the Rocky Mountain Rodeo Association.


He is survived by his wife Judy large, Ardena Spoonhunter, Wade (Patty) Large of White Rocks, Utah, Kaye (Theron) Wells, Todd Large, Wayland Large, Christie (James) Kellum Jr., Abraham Large, Jessie Poire, Heather Friday, Betty (Hubert) Friday, James (Linda) Large Jr., Mary (William) Wagon, Rose Niedo, Chester Pingree Sr., Anita (Delphine)Clair, Harrison (Angie) Shoyo Jr., Arlen (Francine)Shoyo Sr., Lavonne (Johnson) Roanhorse Sr., Bernie Shoyo, Cathy (Brian) Standing Rock, Gloria (Ron)Perry, Lillian (Tony) Aragon, Deanne (Floyd) Leonard, Delbert Large Jr., Buddy (Marlo)Large, Elsie Norah, George Leonard, Marsha Alien, 13 grandkids, 11 great grandkids, Numerous Nieces, Nephews and Relatives.


Preceding him in death was father, Lawrence Large; mother Lula (Leonard) Large; brothers. Sterling K. Large, Gerald Large; Sister Irene Large, maternal grandparents, Fred Leonard Sr. and Lizzette Robertson Leonard; paternal grandparents, Shadrick Large and Maggie Basil Large; Alice (Pingree) Peahrora, Frances Leonard, Fred Leonard Jr., Anna Marie Shoyo, Marilyn Roberts, Dean Shoyo, Randy Shoyo, Arleta "Tootsie" Large, Stanley Large, Delbert Large Sr., Ethel Tillman, Ted Robertson, Deloris Track, Vivian Large, James Large Sr., Jess Large.
