Lawrence McCabe Jr. died Thursday, June 25, 2015 at his family home in Ethete, WY.He was 34 years old.Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at Blue Sky Hall in Ethete.Evening services will be held 7:00 p.m. Monday, June 29, 2015 at Blue Sky Hall.Following the services, a wake will follow at 753 White Hawk Dr., Mill Creek Village.Burial will be at Armour Cemetery.
Lawrence McCabe Jr. was born February 19, 1981 in Puyallup, WA.He was the son of Lawrence Sr. and Rhonda Antelope McCabe.
He attended Wyoming Indian Schools, graduating from Wyoming Indian High School in 1999.He attended the Institute of American Indian Arts in Sante Fe, New Mexico.He also attended Central Wyoming College for Welding.After completing his training from CWC he was employed with TIC, The Industrial Company of Wyoming and High Country Construction.
In 2002, he was diagnosed with cancer.After 3 years of treatments he went into remission.JR returned to work as a pipefitter/welding for various companies working all over the western United States.When not working on the road, JR was attending powwows across Indian Country.He was a champion Grass Dancer at many powwows and loved to sing with his brothers across Indian Country.His dancing led him to be adopted by many families.He was a very talented artist; his artwork is displayed in various museums throughout the country.He was also known for his beautiful feather work.
He was diagnosed with heart failure in 2013 and was placed on hospice care.He was given months to live initially but he continued to fight his illness for the love of his children and family.
JR is survived by his parents, Sons Aubrey McCabe, Aiken McCabe, Casey McCabe, Shoni McCabe, and Keyano Fast Horse; Daughters Tianna McCabe and Gorgeous Lee; Brothers Odie (Doni) McCabe; Sisters Danielle (Stephen) Fast Horse, Gabriella Thunder; Great Grandmother Virginia Antelope, Grandmother Claudia McCabe; Numerous extended families and friends.
He is preceded in death by his Grandmothers Virginia Thunder, Theresa LittleShield, Doris Wagon, Mary Lou Oldman, and Charlotte White; Grandfathers Jim McCabe Sr., George Antelope, Bruce Armour; Uncles Virgil Antelope, John Guthrie, Jimmy McCabe, Albert McCabe; Aunt Evelyn Paddock; Nephew Xavier Fast Horse.
