Lawrence Charles Englert, age 84, went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on November 2, 2020. A Vigil will be 7:00pm, Friday, November 6, 2020 in the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday morning 10:00am, November 7, 2020, also in the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Lander, Wyoming.
Larry was born in Milbank, SD, on April 25, 1936 to Charles and Josephine (Fonder) Englert. He was the second of 11 children. In his younger years, he attended a one-room schoolhouse, milked cows by hand, and enjoyed trapping, fishing, and riding horses. He eventually moved with his family to Vienna, SD, where he attended high school and joked about finishing third highest in his class of three.
After high school, Larry began to learn the trades of carpentry and construction by working for local carpenters, the Jordan Millwork Company in Sioux Falls, and Cronstrom Sheet Metal Works in Minneapolis. From 1958 – 1960, he served as a medic in the army.
When he was stationed in Pennsylvania, he met the love of his life, Gloria Ann. They married on October 20, 1962 and moved the following spring to Lander, Wyoming. Larry worked five years for local contractors, then went on his own. A master craftsman, he was always generous with his time and talents.
Larry and Gloria were blessed with one daughter and five sons. Family meant the world to Larry and Larry meant the world to his family. Together they enjoyed working, camping, hunting, traveling, golfing, going to the mountains, and being at the cabin. Together they also experienced heartache, especially at the sudden passing of Bradley (age 20), and more recently, Brian (age 50).
Throughout his life, Larry's faith remained strong. He did mission work, served his community, and was active in his church. He took things in stride and did what was right. He was generous and forgiving and never gave up on anyone. His eyes smiled, his spirit was gentle, and his love was unconditional. Larry was an extraordinary man – a husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother, and friend – who did ordinary things with all of his heart… a heart of gold.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Josie Englert, two sons, Brad and Brian, sisters Angela and Joyce, and brothers Jerry and Neale.
He will continue to be treasured by his beloved wife of 58 years Gloria, daughter Lisa (Ray) Malek, and sons David, Steve, and Randy; grandchildren Robert (Shay) Cruickshank, Joey (Katie) Malek, Bradley Malek (Katy Springer), Amber Englert, Ashley (Aaron) Marshall, Chad Englert, Alycia Barrett (Spencer Reichert), and Selena Jarvis; great grandchildren Izzi, Jason, Hailey, Wyatt, Scarlett, Bryson, and Raelynn, brothers Don (Bev) Englert, Jay (Cheche) Englert, David (Marsha) Englert, and Basil (Rita) Englert; sisters Arlene Englert and Karen (Larry) Berhow.
