Larry Francis (Dare) Elliott
Born Feb 19, 1939, to Martin Nathaniel Elliott and Josephine Cecilia (Leonard) Elliott at home in Anselmo, NE.
The last of four children, he was very loved and quite spoiled. He got the name 'Dare' because he was often dared to do things like throw a firecracker(cherry bomb) behind the projectionist at the movie theater and was subsequently banned for the rest of the Summer. Larry loved sports and excelled in all of them, especially football. As a 13-year-old avid Husker fan, he and a friend would take the train to Lincoln and back on Saturday game day. Times were different in the 50s!
Larry's Dad was a railroaded, so family vacations were spent going to California, Illinois, and the Lander Valley, where his paternal grandmother was after moving from Jeffrey City.
In high school, his 6-man football team won 3 State championships. He was an All State quarterback and received a scholarship offer from the University but declined it to join the Army. Two years after an honorable discharge, duty called him back during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a proud Veteran and member of the American Legion.
Into the 60s, he made his way to Casper, then Lander, where he met Becky and married in 1970. Her kids, Cathy and Charlie took the Elliott name shortly after.
A ten-year career at the US Steel mine gave him the flexibility to follow his new family's activities, even coaching winning baseball teams.
He loved gardening and was good enough at it to share his harvest with friends and neighbors. Everyone loved his Mom's hot pickle recipe.
He enjoyed woodworking and crafting chairs, planters, and toys.
He had a Life full of joys and sorrows and loved his family dearly.
He enjoyed being active hiking, biking, skiing, fishing, and hunting and won Gold walking 1 OK at the Wyoming Senior Olympics two years in a row.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Vernie, sisters Mildred and Delores, grandson Jesse, and son Jeff and survived by his wife Becky, daughter Cathy, sons Brent, Charlie(Cheryl), grandkids, great-grandkids, sister in law Marcia, and many favorite nephews and nieces. He is missed by his two rescue cats, Bella & Fraidy.
