Joyce Powers was born September 2, 1935, in Lyman, Wyo., to Joseph and Nellie (Fackrell) Powers. She was raised in Lyman, graduating from Lyman High School in 1953, as valedictorian of her class. Upon graduation she attended the University of Wyoming.

On May 17, 1958, Joyce married Joseph (Bob) Rountree in Evanston, Wyo.   Joyce completed her bachelor's degree of science at Eastern Montana College, and taught at the Billings Business College for seven years.

In 1973, Joyce and her family moved to Lander. She began teaching at Lander Valley High School in the business department. During her 17 years at LVHS, she was department chair for 10 years, established and maintained the co-op program, and received her Master's Degree from the University of Wyoming. Joyce touched many lives through her years of teaching, and often said "I can truthfully say I never had a bad kid, they were wonderful."

After her retirement, Joyce served on the Fremont County Library Board and the CWC Board for Vocational Studies. Joyce also volunteered with agencies in Lander helping with literacy programs. She tutored homebound students wanting to finish degrees at CWC, and adults reentering the work place.

Joyce had many interests including genealogy, completing numerous family histories. She was a talented artist, sharing many of her paintings with others. Joyce enjoyed traveling, having lived in Indonesia and visiting 22 other countries. She also enjoyed the mountains, rock hunting, reading, and spending time with family and friends. Joyce was a life long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Joyce had a great love for her family. She touched many lives over the years with her friendship, service and small, unheralded acts of kindness.  Joyce always tried to assist someone to carry his or her burden.  She will be missed.

Joyce is survived by her beloved husband of 51 years, Bob Rountree of Lander; daughter Valeria (Lynn) Christensen of Salt Lake City, Utah; son, Bret (Shanie) Rountree and family of Rathdrum, Idaho; daughter Amy (Colby) Erickson of Lander; four granddaughters; Dakota Christensen of Provo, Utah; Rilee, Katie, and Kolbie Erickson of Lander; mother, Nellie Sears of Salt Lake City, Utah; a sister, Jean Muller of West Jordan, Utah; brothers, Michael (Betty) Powers and Mark Powers all of Lyman, Wyo.; and many nieces and nephews.
