Johnathan Andrew Medicinehorse peacefully passed away in Salt Lake City at the Huntsman Cancer Institute on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at the age of 38. John lost his hard-fought battle due to complications of cancer.
John was born on June 14th, 1988, to Dominic F. Medicinehorse Sr. and Denise R. Sage. He resided on the Wind River Reservation, but also lived in Casper, Billings, and the Crow Agency.
Johnathan received his education through Wyoming Indian Schools, Dean Morgan Jr. High, Flandreau Indian High, Billings Senior High, and Central Wyoming College.
He enjoyed riding bikes, hiking in the mountains, hunting, road trips, playing chess, video games, participating in pool leagues, driving old trucks, cookouts, designing “wicked” tags, swimming, watching movies, cheering on the “Chiefs Nation”, Wyoming Cowboys, Tennessee Titans and Indian Relay Racing.
John believed in his Traditional Crow ways, spending his summers in Montana helping his family with Sundances, which were very important to him.
He is survived by his mother, Denise; stepfather, Jesse LaJeunesse; brothers, Dominic F. Medicinehorse Jr., Derek Medicinehorse; godmothers, Janice Sage and Patti Medicinehorse, including grandmothers too numerous to mention; godfathers, Bill Sage, Tyler Medicinehorse; grandmothers, Estelle Myrna Dawes, Joetta (Ron) Armour, Cindy Winn-Sage and Arydenne Sage; uncles, JR (Jody D.) Medicinehorse and Joseph Sage; aunties, Elizabeth Medicinehorse, Makalia Gutierrez, Inez (Devlin T.) Smart and Christina Sage; cousins, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren too numerous to mention.
Jonathan was preceded in death by his father, Dominic F. Medicinehorse Sr.; grandfathers, T. Larson Medicinehorse, Byron E. Sage; grandmother, Caroline N. Sunrhodes; sister, Melissa M. Medicinehorse; uncles, Ambrose W. Medicinehorse, William P. Medicinehorse; aunt, Robyn Blackburn; nephew, Robert Tillman Jr., Kayden Tillman; cousin, Jamie Goodman.

An all-night wake will be held at 14 Thunder Lane, Ethete, Wyoming 82520, on Sunday, August 2, 2026, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at Blue Sky Hall on Monday, August 3, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Sage-Redman Cemetery in Ethete, Wyoming.
