Long time resident of Lander, John Struna passed away Sept. 13, 2011 at the Lander Valley Medical Center, with his family by his side. He was 76.
John was born in 1935 in Altag, Austria. He came to the United States in 1951 on a ship with his family, thru New York and settled in Lander. In 1956 he married Alberta (Mickie) Struna. In the years to follow John worked at Trails Garage, Smail Motors, and Lander Lumber when he was young. Cream of Webber Dairy in 1958. 27 years in Fremont Motors in Lander. He retired from Fremont in 1985. He was well known from his friends, for his oil paintings, and carved birds. He loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, loved being around friends. Most of all around his children and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by brothers, Ernst Struna of Brookfield, Conn., Frank Struna of Graham Wash., and Albert Struna of Lander; sister, Hilda Girten of Lander; children, Brent Struna of Lander, Frank Struna of Anchorage Alaska, Clint Dushaine Struna of Lander, Debbie Struna of Anchorage, Alaska, Juanita Gorda of Lander; 8 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family is hosting a Memorial Celebration from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm, Saturday, September 24, 2011 in the Lander City Park North Gazebo. Please come and celebrate the life of John Struna.
