Jerry Edwin Alexander (1941-2022)

It is with deep sadness we share the loss of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend on Feb. 6, 2022.

Jerry Edwin Alexander was born Dec. 4, 1941, in Gillette, Wyo. Growing up Jerry lived across the northwestern states until he moved to southern Indiana in his junior year of high school. He graduated in 1960, began working for Colgate Palmolive, and then married the love of his life, Mary, in 1961. Soon thereafter their family began to grow when they were blessed with the births of their two children. Daughter Wendell (Wendy) Lynn was born in 1963, and Wade Travis in 1966.

In 1968, the family packed up and headed west when Jerry accepted a lineman job with Mountain Bell in Lander, Wyo. From there, Jerry owned and operated Jerry's Texaco; was an equipment operator for Union Carbide, Gas Hills in the uranium open pit mines and Western Nuclear, Jeffrey City; and operated his own home construction business—building 22 homes in the Lander area—which led to him founding his own excavation business. He was always an entrepreneur at heart. Jerry started the well-known excavating company Alexander Excavation Inc. in 1981, which still serves many communities across Wyoming. He was proud to watch it evolve into a third-generation family business. Even in his free time, Jerry spent many hours working in his shop and keeping his equipment in tip-top shape.

Jerry and Mary have always said moving to Lander was the best decision of their lives. Lander has been the perfect place for them to enjoy raising their family, entertaining with great friends, and spending wonderful times at their beloved cabin on Pine Creek off South Pass.

Jerry celebrated his 80 ^th birthday in December of 2021 under the guise of a 65-year young man. He was a strong advocate for spending as much time as possible in the outdoors hiking, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and riding many miles of trails annually on his 4-wheelers and RZRs across Wyoming and Arizona. The Continental Divide Snowmobile Trail from Lander to West Yellowstone was his brainchild and one of his proudest accomplishments. He spent many hours developing and maintaining the trail system over the years.

After retirement, Jerry and Mary became snowbirds in Yuma, Ariz., where they spent 13 winters. In Yuma they cherished friendships with so many. He enjoyed leading the group on adventures on many miles of trails.

Jerry was predeceased by parents Harold and Irma Alexander, sisters Norma, Joanne and Marion, and their children.

He is survived by his wife and soulmate of 60 years, Mary Alexander; daughter Wendy (Robert) Power of Rawlins, Wyo.; son Wade (Robyn) Alexander of Lander, grandchildren Johnna (Nate) Minemyer/Bruns; Tad (Jamie) Facinelli; Skyler Power; Taylor Alexander; Jace Power; Ty (Lexie) Alexander; great grandchildren Margot Bruns, Matthew Facinelli, and Brayleigh Alexander; and niece Paula Alec.

There will be a celebration of his life on Friday, Feb. 25 at 11 a.m. at the Lander Community Center. Streaming services are available for those that would like to attend from afar.  In lieu of flowers we encourage contributions go to the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge at 375 East 100 South, Salt Lake City, UT 84111 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
