Jan Gail Pogoree was born to Deleece Teton and was soon raised by Jeanette Pogoree. She grew up in Fort Washakie, Wyoming. As a child, she enjoyed playing with Barbie dolls and dollhouses with her sister, Corrinna. As she grew older, she loved dressing up and always looked her best. Jan eventually left for Kicking Horse Job Corps, where she earned her high school diploma before returning home to Wyoming to begin building her life and providing for her children.
Jan met her significant other, Joe Addison (Grandpa Joe), and they shared 35 years of love together, during which they had a third child. Jan worked for the Eastern Shoshone tribes as a receptionist, at the Shoshone Housing Authority as a security officer and dog catcher, and eventually became the first deli manager at Shoshone Rose Casino. She later discovered a passion for her role as a food distribution distributor. In 2022, Jan suffered a major brain aneurysm and a massive stroke.
Jan had a deep love for her grandchildren and enjoyed traveling with her husband and granddaughters to the Powwow circuit. She was an avid seamstress, always making sure everyone had an outfit, no matter how many orders were placed. She loved eating Chinese food and dining out. Jan took great pride in ensuring her family was well taken care of, and she enjoyed her football Sundays watching the Las Vegas Raiders. She also began watching the Denver Nuggets games with her grandson, Tilden Tillman and was incredibly proud of his basketball achievements from his early years in Tiny Tots through his teenage years.
Jan loved traveling over the mountain to visit family and cherished watching her nephew, Kyle Nipwater, sing and race horses. Although her brain aneurysm affected her in many ways, it never stopped her from being her funny, loving self. She enjoyed watching Investigation Discovery and documentaries. Jan had a loving passion for beading and sewing, and she was always sweet and caring to her family, friends, coworkers, and anyone she met.
She is survived by her loving companion of more than 35 years, Joe Addison; her mother, Deleece Pogoree-Teton; her stepfather, Augustine Teton; children, Dalene Pogoree, Sinead Pogoree, and Joseph Pogoree; sister, Sandra Nipwater; aunts, Neomi Burgess and Tilda Edmo; grandchildren, Danna, Peyton, Darcie, Keeper, Shoshon'i, Temper, Tilden, Tifton, Temela, Joey, Jackie Surrell; great-grandchildren, Kortez and Keanu; nieces and nephews, Dwight Tinno, Marcie Tinno, Kyle Nipwater, Nathan Surrell, Boyd Surrel, and Wendell Surrel.
