James Merton Trosper Jr.

Funeral services for James Merton Trosper, Jr. will be at 10:00 am Tuesday, February 11th at Wyoming Indian High School. Interment will follow at St. Michael's Mission Cemetery at Ethete.

An evening service begins at 7 pm, Monday, February 10th, also at Wyoming Indian High School, with a wake to follow at 124 Trosper Lane, Mill Creek.
James Merton Trosper, Jr. was born on January 9, 1944 , the son of the late James Trosper, Sr. and Bridgette (Friday) Trosper. He married Vera M. (Chavez) Trosper on August 17, 1970.

Mr. Trosper worked as a guide in Dubois and Jackson. He later received his certification in auto diesel mechanics in Chicago, IL. He was employed by the BIA Roads for over 25 years as a diesel mechanic and was later promoted to supervisor. Merton retired in 2010.

Merton was of Episcopal faith. He enjoyed being a rancher for most of his life. He traveled extensively to many basketball tournaments and rodeos. In 1985, Merton qualified for the Indian National Finals Rodeo in Albuquerque, NM with his roping partner, Merle "Burley" Glick. Merton enjoyed hunting with his sons. Merton served on the Wyoming Indian School Board for 30 years. During his later years, he enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in various sports activities. He was an avid Chiefs and Lady Chiefs fan. Merton also participated and believed in traditional ways.

James Merton is survived by his children, James Lee Trosper and wife Theresa, Elizabeth Trosper and Jonas Moon, Sr., Tyrone Trosper, Shelly St. Clair and husband Owen, Rosie Trosper and Ernest Brown; Mother Verna Thunder, Aunt Caroline Goggles, Brothers Bryan Trosper, Milton Trosper and wife Patricia, Kenneth "Butch" Trosper and wife Karen, Don Gambler and wife Pam, Dan Brown, and Lydell Thunder; Sisters Marvene Thunder, Clarinda Thunder, Janell Thunder and Harold Little Bear, Rhonda Glenmore and husband Shannon; Adopted daughters Jenni Runs Close to Lodge, Jola Wallowingbull, and Gladys St. Clair-Tidzump; the Thunder, Sage, Goggles, Friday, Hanway, Dewey, Goodman, St. Clair, Quiver, and Shakespeare families.

James Merton was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, daughter Marlys Andrews; son Gregory Trosper, Sr.; brothers William Trosper, Jr., Frank Armajo, Keith Goggles, Glen Errol Trosper, and Curtis LeClair, Sr.; and sister Harriette Trosper; uncles Truman Friday, Ben Friday, Jr., Chris Goggles, Bill Thunder, Chester Friday, Sam Friday, William Trosper, Joe Sage; aunts Effie (Trosper) Friday, Hazel (Trosper) Sage, Cecelia Friday, and Nellie (Friday) Shakespeare.
