Jacob Joseph Henan Jr.

August 12, 1929 — January 26, 2025

On January 26, 2025, Jacob J. Henan Jr. passed away in his home at the age of 95. His heart was always, and forever shall be, in the mountains of the Wind River Range.

Jacob, known to everyone as "Joe", was born in Fort Washakie, Wyoming August 12, 1929. He was the son of Jacob and Gladys Henan. Jacob(Joe) grew up in a family of 12 children and is survived by his younger sister, two daughters, three sons, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jacob(Joe) retired as a civil servant whose career began with the U.S. Soil Conservation Service and later transitioned to the Department Of The Interior Bureau Of Indian Affairs. After retiring from Civil Service he worked for the Eastern Shoshone Tribe. During his career, Jacob(Joe) found time to serve on the Eastern Shoshone Tribal Counsel and raise a family.

Jacob(Joe) served in the United States Marine Corps and fought in the Korean War, landed in Inchon, and survived the Chosin Reservoir Campaign. Jacob(Joe) never really spoke much about his experiences in Korea but, when he did you stopped and listened.

Throughout his life, Jacob(Joe) enjoyed many activities such as bowling, hunting, fishing, Masons, Legion, Shriners, and even mowing the lawn just to name a few. Possibly his all-time favorite pastime could have been driving his beloved 1968 Ford Bronco, which took him on many hunting and fishing adventures and he claimed: "that Bronco can out climb anything".

Jacob(Joe) will be cremated with a memorial service for the family to be held at a date to be determined. His bright smile, big heart, and special kind of humor will be truly missed.
