Jack Sherman Weger
Jack Sherman Weger was born February 5, 1921 in Sheldon, Iowa to Oscar Weger and Fern Sherman. He passed away on March 9, 2011 at the Help for Health Hospice Home in Riverton, at the age of 90.
Jack and his family moved to Casper, Wyoming in 1929 and then on to Lander in 1934 graduating from Fremont County Vocational High School in 1938.
He left Lander and went to Burbank, California where he worked for the Lockheed Vega Corporation building airplanes. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp during World War II and served through the War. He used his G.I. Bill to get a pilots license.
He moved back to Lander in 1942. He then married Betty (Laycock) Weger on June 22, 1947 in Laramie, Wyoming, settling in the Lander area, on a ranch on North 2nd St., raising Registered Herefords. Later the family moved up-river where they lived for 30 years, enjoying life on the North Fork.
He was also an entrepreneur running the Lander Chevron, with his brother, Lee Ward McRae, and the Coleman and Weger Implement in Powell.
His years of mechanical ability spanned riveting for Lockheed to maintenance mechanic for U.S. Steel until he retired in 1983.
He enjoyed the Wyoming outdoors by fishing, camping, snowmobiling, and circling the lawn chairs with friends and family.
He was a member of the American Legion, Masons, and Shriners.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Betty.
Jack is survived by children, Gary (Claudia) Weger, Patricia Weger, Kathy Weger, & John (Ruth) Weger; grandchildren, Brian (Chia) Weger, Sara Fluer, Craig Fluer, & Ben Weger; & great-grandchildren, Cheyenne Weger, & Cara Weger.
A Funeral Service has been planned for Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Mount Hope, Hudson's Funeral Home, Lander, Wyoming. 307-332-2221.
