Irene Fay Amboh Peahrora passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family. Irene was 77 years old. She was born on February 7, 1949, at the Wind River Indian Hospital in Fort Washakie, WY, to Ned and Jean (Tarness) Amboh.
Irene was a lifelong resident of the Wind River Indian Reservation. She enjoyed spending time with her family as well as beading and watching her favorite T.V. "Walker Texas Ranger". She attended church and liked going to the casino; she really loved her cat "Melvin".
Growing up Irene loved riding horses and participated in rodeos. She was the Eastern Shoshone Powwow Queen, and she was also a part of the Entertainment cooks.
She is survived by: her daughter, Alice Jean Hereford; brother, Leonard (Emily) Roberts; sisters, Claudine Perry, Lila Rodriguez; grandsons, Leland Peahrora, Johnny Hereford; great-grandkids, Sonny and Casey Peahrora; nephews, Preston Smith, Scott, Jacob, Jared, Ronald Amboh, Clinton Wagon; nieces, Lana Andrea, Christel (Quinn) Tammy Peahrora, Karla (Che') Ramos, Spring, Tara, Kendra Amboh, Bennie Lee, Jonessa, Candice Roberts, Margeret, Lizette Wilma Wagon; numerous nephews/nieces, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; extended relatives, Timbana, Pogoree, Tarness.
Irene is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Peahrora; son, Leland Peahrora; parents, Ned and Jean Amboh; sisters, Aline, Alta, Marilyn Amboh, Beverly, Barbara Roberts; auntie, Lily Robert-Tarness; brothers, Alfred, Casey, Eddy Amboh, Emerson, Glendo, Rudy Roberts; nephews, Kerby, Jason Amboh, Ronson Peahrora, Carlton Roberts; nieces, LaDeana Roberts, Lorinda Amboh, Sally Amboh; granddaughter, Dalphine Peahrora; grandsons, Cardell Amboh, Tisso Guina, Duke Perry; son-in-law, Thomas (TJ) Hereford; special friend, Leonard Friday.
An all-night wake will be held on Sunday, July 19, 2026, beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Rocky Mountain Hall, 19 North Fork Road, Fort Washakie, Wyoming 82514.
The funeral service will be held at Rocky Mountain Hall on Monday, July 20, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Sacajawea Cemetery in Fort Washakie, Wyoming.
